Introduction
Congratulations KIPPsters! You are taking the next step in your undergraduate education. Gaining experience through a summer program is one of the most important steps in preparing for your future professional endeavors. With hundreds of different programs throughout the country to which you can apply, you are sure to have a great summer! It is important to start your search early and this guidebook can help you get started.
Summer enrichment programs, internships and fellowships are a great way to build your resume. It is important to note, searching and applying to summer programs takes time, effort, and dedication; the earlier students can start the search the better. Many students, unfortunately, wait until the last minute to begin applying for these competitive programs, which causes them to miss key opportunities to learn and expand your professional network.
This guidebook should be used as a reference and a starting point for your own search. While there are many programs in this guidebook, it is by no means a complete list. Take your time going through all of the programs and make note of the ones that you are eligible and interested in applying for. Organize all the applications by deadline and make sure that you collect all of the necessary materials to successfully complete the application. If essays are required, ensure that at least 2 other people read them and provide feedback. Treat each application with care and do not wait until the last minute to apply.
As always, KIPP Through College (KTC) is here to support you in this process! KTC can give you personalized feedback on essays, and help you complete the application. Your counselors, professors and cohorts are also great resources to support you in completing strong applications on time.
We hope you enjoy and take advantage of the information presented in this guidebook. Happy summer program searching!
Sincerely,
The KIPP Through College Team
