Some college application terms
• Rolling admission = you can apply at any time. No official opening or closing dates for the application
• Automatic admission = public universities in Texas use rank to determine your acceptance
• In general: top 10% is automatically admitted to public Texas universities
• Holistic review = when a university looks at more than your test scores and grades to determine if you are accepted i.e. leadership, sports, theater, your essays, letters of recommendation, etc.
When to apply?
• Early/priority/early action = an earlier application deadline, usually before winter break. You’ll get your admission decision sooner. Sometimes you have to apply early to be considered for scholarships
• Early decision = this is a BINDING DECISION. If you are admitted, YOU WILL ATTEND. PERIOD.
• Ms. Z does NOT recommend applying early decision EVER.
