COLLINGSWOOD PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH SERVICE FOR THE LORD’S DAY

April 8, 2018 2nd Sunday of Easter

ASSEMBLE IN GOD’S NAME

Morning Reflection living the questions

“… be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the

questions themselves like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given

you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer. Resolve to be always

beginning - to be a beginner!” -Rainer Maria Rilke, “Rilke's Letters on Love”

Prelude Welcome and Announcements

We welcome you in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ! Please sign the guest book in the narthex so we can send you a welcome packet or fill out a yellow welcome card located in the pews. The card can be placed in the offering place.

Gathering of Prayer Concerns and Joys

Please raise your hand to share your joys or concerns to be included in the prayers of the people this day. You may also write your concern on the pink sheets and hand to the Pastor. Please mail a prayer card from the narthex to your loved one.

(Please stand for items marked with an asterisk. GTG is the purple “Glory to God” hymnal. STF is the “Sing the Faith” smaller blue hymnal)

Centering Music - “There’s a Sweet, Sweet Spirit” GTG #408 There’s a sweet, sweet Spirit in this place, and I know that it’s the Spirit of the Lord; there are sweet expressions on each face, and I know they feel the presence of the Lord. Refrain Sweet Holy Spirit, sweet heavenly Dove, stay right here with us, filling us with your love; and for these blessings we lift our hearts in praise; without a doubt we’ll know that we have been revived when we shall leave this place. Call to Worship Leader: Christ is risen! People: Christ is risen indeed! Leader: Alleluia! Celebrate God in this sacred space! People: Celebrate God in all places under heaven! Leader: Give praise for God’s mighty deeds! People: Give praise for God’s resurrecting power!

Let everything with life and breath praise God! *Hymn - “Thine Is the Glory” GTG #238 tune - Judas Maccabeus *Prayer of Confession (unison) God of the empty tomb and our empty hearts, when we are afraid to speak our faith in the world, forgive us and help us to find our voice. When we are afraid to forgive and to love again, forgive us and give us the power to forgive. When we are afraid to stand up to misguided authority, join with the weak to make us all strong. When we are confined by our hurts, touch us with your wounded hands and set us free. When we are locked behind our doubts and fears, pass through our barricades, open our hearts and give us peace. Amen.

Time for silent confession

*Words of Assurance Leader: Christ comes with healing light into our locked places

and shadowy hurts, resurrecting our spirits and breathing into us new life. People: As God’s own forgiven people we will go to bring

peace, forgiveness and new life to the world in the name of Jesus Christ.

*Response - “My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less” GTG #353 tune - Solid Rock My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name. Refrain On Christ, the Solid Rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand’ all other ground is sinking sand. *Sharing of the Peace Leader: The peace of Christ be with you. People: And also with you.

PROCLAIM GOD’S WORD

Children’s Call - “Come All Ye Children” All please stand and join in singing and playing instruments

Children’s Sermon

(Children aged Pre-k-5th grade should follow Mrs. Kolecki out for Sunday School).

Scripture Reading - Acts 4:32-35 (page 995) *Hymn - “Good Christians All, Rejoice and Sing!” GTG #239 tune - Gelobt Sei Gott Gospel Reading - John 20:19-31 (page 989) Sermon “How We Live With Good News” Rev. Jen Fox

RESPONSE TO THE WORD Offering

Among the first Christians, there were no needy people because those who were rich brought their

resources to be shared. They gave up their advantages so the needs of all could be met. Out of the rich

legacy they have passed on to us, we bring our tithes and offerings in thanksgiving for all God’s gifts.

Musical Meditation - Instrumental *Doxology - “A Grateful Heart” GTG #652 A grateful heart is what I bring, a song of praise, my offering. Among the saints I lift my voice: in you, O God, I will rejoice.

Prayer of Dedication (Unison)

We offer to you our common stewardship, loving god. We want to be faithful in meeting one another’s needs and in serving the world in Christ’s name. The gifts we bring today will not mark an end to our giving. We sense that you are sending us, as Jesus was sent,

to share light with the world. Thus, we dedicate our time and effort as a further offering. May life and

faith be extended to man through us. Amen. Prayers of the People Leader: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Leader: Prayers of thanksgiving, intercession, petition

All: Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

GO IN GOD’S NAME

*Hymn - “The Day of Resurrection!” GTG #233 tune - Lancashire *Benediction *Postlude
