Welcome to the 2021 school year! I hope you had

a relaxing and refreshing break as we begin

another busy school year. Hopefully it will be a little

calmer than all we dealt with last year. After 2 weeks, I

am pleased to report a really positive start. Classes

are really settled and our new Reception students

have fitted in so well. Across the whole school we only

have 3 or 4 students still a little anxious at times.

NEWSLETTERS Just a reminder that newsletters are distributed 3 times a term in weeks 3, 6 and 9, usually on a Thursday. The newsletter can be accessed from the

SENTRAL for Parents app or portal and via the links available on the school

website (front page newsletter flip box).

Although these students are new to the Colonel Light Gardens Primary

School, many are not new to the CLG community as they have older siblings

in the school. I look forward to working together in partnership with all of

our families to make the schooling experience for every child positive and

productive. Together we can achieve great things.

I would also like to welcome back Kat Butler, Meg Wright and Penny Rowe all returning from parenting leave and Rachel Palmer

returning to CLG after teaching at another school. A complete list of all the 2021 staff and their roles is included in the newsletter.

SENTRAL FOR PARENTS With the SENTRAL for Parents app finally behaving itself, it is essential that all

parents and carers are connected to the school this way. Not only is it one of the

key communication platforms we use with our community, it will be the medium

through which you will receive your child’s reports. Each report will be pushed

out as a PDF for you to read, save and print if you choose to. If your child was at

CLG in 2020, last years’ reports are there now. Due to privacy restrictions, the

SENTRAL for Parents app is only available to each child’s biological or adopted

parents and official carers. If you are not connected to your children's data on

SENTRAL, or are still having issues, please contact Megan at

[email protected]

SEESAW At CLG, the expectation is that class teachers post at least twice a week on their class Seesaw journal page about the learning

happening in each class. These posts may be about the work, the class or even your child. I know many teachers post more often

than twice a week and you have control of determining when you want to be alerted to the posts (e.g. in real time or once a day).

This year the school has purchased the full version of Seesaw, so that the leadership and admin staff can post announcements to

families as needed. It was a big investment, however we are determined to keep you informed.

ACQUAINTANCE NIGHTS Thank you for attending our Acquaintance night sessions on Monday and/or Tuesday. Even with the limited numbers permitted to

attend due to COVID restrictions, I hope you found them useful. As teachers can’t cover everything in 30 minutes, we sent home

some pre-reading information beforehand.

The goal for each session was to enable you to meet your child’s teacher/s, hear some of the plans for the year ahead, see inside

rooms and ask some questions. Did we meet your needs? As always I am keen to hear your feedback, both positive and not so

positive about the sessions. Please email me at [email protected] if you have any questions.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING (AGM) At 6.30pm on Monday 22 February, the school will be holding a brief AGM. All interested parents, relatives and

community members are invited to come along and hear short reports about the progress of our school. There will be

an opportunity to ask any questions you may have. The meeting should only last for 30 minutes.

We have some vacancies on the Governing Council this year. Would you like to be more involved in the school through

participation in the Governing Council and/or one of the council’s subcommittees? I would encourage anyone

interested to email me at [email protected] and I will send you some information to consider.

Kind Regards

SENTRAL FOR PARENTS APP

Over the last several months, the 'Sentral for Parents'

app has been updated to improve performance and

functionality.

The Sentral for Parents app can be updated using the relevant App Store link provided,

Apple App Store for iOs users or Google Play store for Android users.

Please email: [email protected] if you are having difficulties or if your

login credentials require resetting.

All current users should now update their

app to version 3.0.12 to continue using the app, as older versions will

no longer be supported.

PLEASE UNINSTALL THE CURRENT APP FROM YOUR DEVICE IF THE VERSION

IS OLDER THAN THE ONE MENTIONED ABOVE. RESTART YOUR DEVICE

BEFORE DOWLOADING/INSTALLING THE CURRENT VERSION.

In 2021, we are going paperless, starting with our school reports. Reports in term 2 will

be pushed out to all families via the SENTRAL for Parents app/portal, so making sure

you have it downloaded and working on your phone is essential. As the year

progresses, we are hoping to add excursion notes and permission notes.

LIBRARY After a short week we are finally up and running with classes visiting each week. It is so rewarding to see their happy smiling faces again and to witness the enthusiasm of borrowing books. Our theme for this year is space to coincide with upcoming events:

Term 2: National Simultaneous Storytime—’Give me some space’ by Philip Bunting

Term 3: Book Week—New Worlds, Old Worlds, Other Worlds

We have a fantastic range of books on space, solar systems and space travel etc. and I will build on this genre throughout the year. A display of our solar system is on show in the Library covering interesting facts about the planets and their moons.

The PRC is now under way and students have 3 terms to register 12 books on their forms. A very easy target considering the number of books they borrow and read each week. Our school has an incredible focus on reading and this shows with the students’ enthusiasm to complete this challenge. We also encourage the students to broaden their reading range for this challenge.

Issue 1 Loop orders are due Friday 12 February. I have amended the room numbers for the Reception classes on the Scholastic website. Suzanne Fisher - Library Manager

MATERIAL & SERVICES 2021 The 2021 Materials and Services invoices for all students were mailed late January to addresses in our school database. These invoices are due in full on 7th March 2021, unless you have arranged for a direct debit agreement and are making regular payments. If you wish to have regular payments taken out via direct debit, please contact the school.

EXCURSION PRE-PAYMENT Excursion pre-payment invoices for 2021 went home via your child on the first week of school. These are due 8th March 2021, unless on a direct debit agreement. There were a lot of outstanding amounts from 2020 due to COVID-19 cancellations, so credits were applied for all amounts over $5.00 to your child’s account. This credit was sent home with the Material and Services invoice. If you did not get a credit it was because the excursion pre-payment being used in full in 2020.

The school office is open from 8.30am - 10:00am each school day to receipt payments. Payments can be made by cash, cheque, Visa or MasterCard in person, online or over the phone.

Online payment with Credit card Go to www.clgps.sa.edu.au and select ‘Parent Information’ and then ‘Fees and Payments’. Click on the School BPOINT link which will take you to the payments page.

School Card Applications for School Card (financial assistance) need to be completed every year, for every eligible child. If you have not yet applied for School Card and think you are eligible, I encourage you to do so as soon as possible. Applications for all forms are now online at: https://www.sa.gov.au/topics/education-and-learning/financial-help-scholarships-and-grants/school-card-scheme Stef Marston Business Manager [email protected]

Our instrumental music programme has started again. It takes place on Monday mornings in half hour group sessions

with various instruments offered. The opportunity to learn an instrument is offered to students in Years 5-7. Learning a

musical instrument helps students to read music, persistence, with a difficult piece, self-motivation to practice at

home, and coordination. Playing music also fills you with a sense of accomplishment; students feel good about

mastering a song, difficult chord, or instrument!

We are privileged to be able host instrumental music lessons at Colonel Light Gardens due to the number of students

involved. We have two Department for Education music teachers visit the school to teach the following instruments:

If your child is interested in learning an instrument this year please fill in this expression of interest form

Instruments can be hired through the Department for Education if there is availability. For further information or

questions please contact me at: [email protected]

RESULT OF OUR 2020 CLG FOOD DRIVE

Thank you to Colonel Light Gardens Primary School for your kind donation to Foodbank South Australia. Your donation of 360kg equates to 720 meals for those in need.

Last year, Foodbank were supporting more than 126,000 South Australians every month. This has increased exponentially. While supporting the 126,000 South Australians, we are providing ongoing food relief support to those in the regions impacted by the bush fires and the referrals to our food hubs have increased as a result of the impacts of COVID-19. We appreciate your donation enormously.

More than food, your donation shows that our community cares about them.
