Thank you for your interest in our state’s agriculture industry. The information in this

bulletin represents the work of Colorado’s dedicated farmers and ranchers. The decisions that they make affect our businesses, the food system, and our communities. It is vital that those decisions are based on solid and comprehensive data.

As a third generation Yuma County farmer, I truly believe our farmers and ranchers are the

foundation to our great state and country. That success is built on statistics-driven information to make the best informed decisions for our own operations, which helps build a stronger future for us all.

Agriculture is one of the top three industries in Colorado, provides over $40 billion to the state economy, and employs more than 170,000 people across the state; and CDA is proud to be a part of such an important industry.

The Colorado Department of Agriculture is dedicated to promoting agriculture on the local,

Dear Friends of Agriculture, Accurate information regarding the agricultural industry in Colorado is so important. This year highlights the need for good information given the weather effects in the state and large swings in commodity prices. In 2017 net farm income for Colorado agricultural producers totaled just over $900 million and cash receipts totaled nearly $6.8 billion, again showing the importance of agriculture in Colorado’s economy. The data we collect and publish are valuable tools in letting people make decisions regarding marketing, disaster programs, and research efforts, especially in years like this. With that, I am pleased to present the 2018 Colorado Agricultural Statistics Bulletin made available through the Mountain Regional Field Office of USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service in cooperation with the Colorado Department of Agriculture. This bulletin is a showcase for the diversity and value of agriculture across the state. In addition, much of the information in this bulletin and the information we have available throughout the year are used for sound decision making in the agricultural sector – good decisions are made by having good information. Thank you to the farmers and ranchers for taking time out of their busy schedules to provide the data needed to produce these statistics. I also want to thank all the agribusinesses, extension educators and USDA's Farm Service Agency for contributing information for this bulletin and providing support for our programs. This report would not be possible without the dedicated effort of field and telephone interviewers who collect this data and the office staff that compiles it. I would like to thank Brian Biesemeier for the cover photography, and a special thanks to the Colorado Department of Agriculture for covering the costs of printing this bulletin. National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) Reports and Data The NASS Internet homepage provides easy access to the wide range of reports, data and general information published throughout the year. All data in this bulletin is published at an earlier date and can be found most quickly via the Internet.

Through a cooperative agreement with Cornell University, the Albert R. Mann Library distributes NASS, Economic Research Service (ERS), and World Agricultural Outlook Board (WAOB) periodicals and data files via the USDA Economics and Statistics System on a web server. Over 500 NASS reports annually are available free of charge. All NASS reports along with WAOB’s World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) are available electronically seconds after release. A calendar of scheduled releases is available from the NASS Homepage by clicking on Publications. The next screen is the Reports Calendar where you can choose the year and month of interest.

Free E-Mail Subscriptions to NASS Reports

When a current report is released, it can be sent free of charge via e-mail to the list of subscribers for that report. From the NASS homepage, select the Publications drop down, then follow the instructions under Receive Reports by Email. The four report options available in Colorado are:

There is no charge for e-mail subscriptions via Internet. You will receive a confirmation message to your email address you provide. You must verify that you subscribed to the releases before you start receiving the releases in your inbox. You may unsubscribe at any time by going to the Subscription Page and unchecking the reports you wish to discontinue.

Agricultural Statistics Data Base (Quick Stats)

Published U.S., State, and County information is also available in an online database FREE OF CHARGE. The database allows custom extracts based on commodity, year, State, and other selection criteria and produces an output file compatible for updating databases and spreadsheets for selected commodities. The database can be accessed from the NASS homepage then selecting Data and Statistics. From there you can retrieve National, State, or County level data. The Census of Agriculture is also available in Quick Stats. The database allows custom extracts based on commodity, year, selected counties within a State, or all counties in one or more States. The county data include totals for the Agricultural Statistics Districts (county groupings) and the State. Video tutorials and other information can be found by selecting Help.
