What is Sin?

1 John 3:4 Everyone who sins Breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness.

Sin Separates us from God EternallyJames 2:10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.

Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned—

Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death …

but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Sin Separates us from God Relationally

1 John 3:4-104Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. 5But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin.6No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.

7Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. He who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. 8He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work.

-verse 4: “makes a practice of sinning” -verse 6: “Keeps on sinning” -verse 6: “continues to sin” -verse 8: “does what is sinful”

The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.

9No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.

1) you will discover you are really not a Christian

2) you will be convicted, & then change your actions

3) God will take you home by physically ending your life 1 John 5:16-17

“blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”

“if you love Me, obey my commands.”

How Does Sin Work?

James 1:14-15 14but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. 15Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin,

when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

The Answer to SinCome to Jesus

1 John 2:1 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.

1 John 2:2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.

Remain in Jesus

1 John 1:8-9 8If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Romans 6:6-7 6For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— 7because anyone who has died has been freed from sin.

Hebrews 12:1-2 1Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith,
