Konica Minolta continues the success story of the bizhub range, a range which

has remained at the forefront of advanced technology. These professional colour

print devices are equipped with a suite of cutting-edge print innovations

producing absolutely reliable, high-quality, finished print outputs. Of very

special note is the flexible bizhub Open Platform (OP) and, in addition, the

one-pass tandem technology and the Simitri®polymerised toner, which is

manufactured in-house, both of which contribute substantially to the admirable

accuracy, quality, speed and cost-effectiveness.

The addition of the EFI Fiery controller range is the perfect step. The resulting

synergy for the bizhub C300 adv, the bizhub C352 adv and the bizhub C450 adv

provides the advanced power and performance and the advanced colour

consistency for the exacting needs of graphical studios and high-end offices.

Specifically the Fiery IC-406 creates the bizhubC300 (30ppm) and the bizhub C352 (35ppm)advanced versions and the Fiery IC-402 createsthe bizhub C450 adv (35ppm). Both controllers relyon a smart Linux platform and powerful hardwarefeaturing the 2GHz processing CPU. Incorporatingboth a unique SmartRip technology and theRip & Print feature the EFI Fiery controllers produceunbeatable performance and speed which meansthat the bizhub devices can operate at full capacity.

The EFI Fiery controllers come with an impressivesuite of utilities. Precise colour management withFiery ColorWise, Fiery Spot-On® and Color Profileris assured. Document Workflow utilities include HotFolder and the powerful Virtual Printer both of which

provide easy access to settings for consistency andprofessional output, as well as Fiery Impose whichis template based. Variable Data Printing (VDP) isfully supported to a high finished level includingmultiple masters. For the high-end office thenotable features are Command WorkStation forthe administrator, Authentication for user admini-stration and Unidriver which is a uniform printinterface with a most welcome customisationfacility. Security of both stored documents andthe network is also assured.

As every professional knows the multiplicity of colour systems – RGB, CYMK,

LAB, color gamut, Process – represents a considerable challenge for the

graphical environment. What is required is an outstanding colour consistency

and quality across platforms, applications and all types of media.

The EFI Fiery IC-402 and the EFI Fiery IC-406 effectively and impressively

achieve these requirements. Their process is based on the Adobe PostScript 3

and CPSI 3017 and is supported by a suite of advanced and precise tools.

Advanced colour workflow is activated throughan absolutely straightforward GUI for the settingof colour processes for RGB and CYMKproduction, colour simulation, black and greytone conversion and the output profile. Printedoutput has excellent colour accuracy andconsistency as the process is entirely inde-pendent of source and application.The RIP-process automatically takes place inthe controller thus freeing up work stations.

Fiery Spot-On®

Superior colour matching is a must to ensureoutput colour standards across documents,namely colour precision and colour consistency.Fiery Spot-On® is an intuitive interface for theconceptualising and modifying of spot coloursand answers the needs of the most demandingprofessional. Each customised colour iscalibrated for Pantone, HKS, DIC and Toyo andthis calibration is completely independent of thesystem. Thus the colours within a documentvisually match those required, which is necessary for uniform appearance andessential for specified colours e.g. logos.

Spot colours and general CMYK and RGBcolours are identified by a commercial name e.g.HKS 47, by a given name or by the colour valueschosen. Libraries can be created effortlesslyfor general and specific use.

Auto Trapping (optional)

This Fiery error-free printing solution for themisregistration of adjacent print colourseliminates the low-level solution problems eg.black overprint and white boundary, to give topclass colour graphics. Notably it supports allprocess colours and can be applied to allcolours in both composite and separateddocuments. It runs post-RIP and being extremelyfast makes no performance impact.

EFI Color Profiler (optional)

For the advanced improvement in the con-sistency of output devices the EFI Color ProfilerKit is the ideal utility. The handheld spectrometerenables a professional calibration capability andthe enhancement and stabilisation of the outputquality. As a Densitometer it supports directlinear calibration of output devices within theColorWise utility. As a Spectralphotometer itsupports the creation of printer output profilescomplying with the International Color Consor-tium standards (ICC). Included is the highly-desirable facility to support Fiery Spot-On®.Specific spot and custom colours can be directlymeasured and then further refined with the DeltaE values which result from the direct comparisonbetween the original and the print out.The creation and adjustment of monitor profilescompletes this comprehensive utility.

requirements. The EFI Fiery controllers incorporate workflow utilities designed

to considerably reduce pre-preparation time and to easily maintain consistency

in the finished output.

EFI Impose (optional)

Powerful, intuitive, application-independent –the EFI Impose is a free-flow imposition platformwhich guarantees WYSIWYG. There are a largenumber of pre-installed templates available e.g.a variety of booklet page arrangements, all ofwhich can be easily customised and thenseparately stored. At the Command WorkStationa complete pre-print can be viewed. Worthy ofnote: Variable Data Print (VDP) jobs enjoy thesame functions as non-VDP jobs. Processes arepre-defined and standards are maintainedindependently from this layout software.Therefore the processing occurs in-RIP thusfreeing up work stations.

Virtual Printer and

Hot Folder (optional)

Two advanced utilities which enhanceproductivity, heighten standards and maintainorganisational conformity through pre-definitionand streamlining of workflows.

A Hot Folder normally contains all the necessarysettings for the print driver, ColorWise coloursettings and Fiery Impose. A PDF, PS or EPSfile is simply copied to the relevant Hot Folderwhere, automatically, all print settings areapplied after which the job is downloadedfor printing.

The powerful alternative is the Virtual Printerwhich can accept documents from any appli-cation. The settings for each Virtual Printer canbe exactly defined by the Administrator toguarantee document standards e.g. within thecompany or for external clients. This assuressimplified workflow and document consistencyfor all operators.

USB Media Server

The uploading of print data from a USB stick orhard disc is fully supported at the high speedUSB port. Automatic uploading is possible bysending the file to one of the named Fiery printqueues. In combination with a Virtual Printer thejob receives a complete workflow withoutrequiring a PC, Mac or print application.

Variable Data Printing (VDP)

Serial letters and direct mailings are a welcomeadvanced feature. The use of a typical VDPapplication, such as Printshop Mail, enablesmultiple masters and a pre-defined workflow.Thus complex variable data jobs remainprofessionally presented whilst requiring littlepreparation time.

Performance, power and rapid workflow are the main requirements of the high-

end office and for the supplementary needs of the graphical studio – in addition,

of course, to highest order colour graphics. The Fiery controllers offer an

advanced, powerful platform precisely for these needs thus providing remark-

able office conveniency and excellent functional graphical features.

Command WorkStation

The device administrator is given a centralinterface in order to set-up the controller itselfas well as to administer print settings and usersand manage the existing print queues. Printqueue management includes the transfer optionto other Fiery controllers to share workloadbetween the output devices.

UniDriver

For uniformity all Fiery controllers within thesystem employ the same printer interface.However customisation is availble for each user.The first driver tab can be modified to includeparticular functionalities which are mostfrequently required.

Authentication

Typical authorised user privileges include right-to-print and access-to-colour. Authenticationprovides a secure workflow, easier administrationand tighter budget control. User information caneasily be imported from existing databases asFiery controllers support LDAP and WindowsActive Directory.

Box Function

Personal print files or customer related docu-ments can be protected when stored in a box,which appears to be a normal data folder.Reprint jobs and up/download of files aretherefore immediately accessible.

Security

User information and stored data remain securein the Fiery controller. Among the security utilitiesare SSL and TSL communication which can besetup for all LDAP or data transmission betweenthe Fiery controller and the internal server.In addition, IP addresses can be filtered andnetwork ports can be blocked. As a result, forexample, secure communication with selectedtrusted clients is guaranteed.
