EXERCISE 7 (8%)
COLOUR RENDERING: MIX MEDIUM
INTRODUCTION
Mix medium rendering applies to color modification. Students might want to modify,
adjust, and enhance the earlier illustration and rendering to make it more efficient and
effective in presenting ideas.
It involves painting and drawing techniques used for all dry and wet medium, but in mix
medium, two or more medium are combined, whether similar- such as pencil over
pencil, or differing- such as pastel over marker, pencil color over water color; as long
as the medium are compatible.
LESSON OBJECTIVES
1. To introduce combination techniques (mix medium) in wet and dry medium.
2. To introduce skills in materials representation.
3. To develop skills in producing effective drawing representation.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon completion of this exercise, students should be able to:
1. Understand and apply combination techniques (mix medium) in wet and dry
medium.
2. Demonstrate basic skills in mix medium for material representation
3. Produce effective drawing representation.
SKETCH TASK
Sketch 12 (Appendix S12)
On one (1) A4 size cartridge paper, choose and illustrate any 8 types of material
representation. Use any medium combinations that you comfortable with by applying the
appropriate techniques.
TASK 7A: MIX MEDIUM – DRY MEDIUM OVER WATERCOLOUR
On one (1) A3 size simple formatted watercolour paper/cartridge paper, reproduce the
drawing given in Appendix T7A. Render the drawing using dry medium over watercolour
with appropriate techniques.
TASK 7B: MIX MEDIUM – DRY MEDIUM OVER MARKER
On one (1) A3 size simple formatted photocopy paper/marker paper/layout paper
reproduce the drawing given in Appendix T7B. Render the drawing using dry medium
over marker with appropriate techniques.
