About• To provide opportunities for less privileged

children of Marine Parade to engage in cultural exchange activities with Japanese students and be introduced to Japanese culture

•To facilitate friendship building between the less privileged children from Marine Parade and the Japanese students

•To provide a platform for the less privileged children of Marine Parade to make friends with members of the Japanese community

Event OutlineBefore departure to The Japanese School (7.45am)

• Reporting time – 7.45am @ Marine Parade CC Foyer• Attire: Smart Casual – Polo-Tee, Jeans & Covered Shoes• Look for PA Staff, David• Upon registration, you will be given Blue lanyard with the name card. The name card contains your group number & name Big placards with your group number (Group no 1 – 30) Ensure the correct group number is assigned to you

Event OutlineAfter registration (8.00am)

• To stand in line with the placards (Group no 1 – 30)• About 100 students will report at 8.00am for registration• The students will be given Red lanyards and breakfast pack• The breakfast pack contains 1 mineral water + 1 bread• The students will proceed to their respective groups• Ensure the students go to the correct groups• Introduce yourself to the group and get to know them•Bus will leave at 8.15am sharp

Event OutlineArriving at The Japanese School (8.45am)

• Arrival time – 8.45am• The bus will stop at the entrance as shown in the pictures• Ensure all group members are present before moving in as a group into the school• There will be ushers guiding on the route to the school hall• There will also be signage placed at strategic spots (in both languages)

Event OutlineIn the Multi-Purpose Hall (9.00am)

• Goodie bags to be put aside at allocated point (kiv)• Line up in columns on the left side of the hall, in front of the stage from Group 1 -30 (follow the instructions given by the emcees – e.g. 30 columns:1 row / 15 columns:2 rows)• Hold the big placard in front of the column • Ensure everyone is issued a water bottle• The teacher-in-charge, Murase-sensei will be doing the matching; listen for the instructions

Event OutlineBooth Activities

• The teacher-in-charge will dismiss all the groups for booth activities• Ensure that your groups are with you at all times (3-4 local students and 3-4 Japanese students) – there will be a leader among the Japanese students per group• Break the ice for both the locals and Japanese students and do not leave out any of them. Facilitate communication between the locals and Japanese students (suggestion: buddy system)• Do speak to the Japanese students (they know simple English)• Participate, interact and have fun with the students at the booths• If any students are not feeling well, do direct them to any staff (wearing a white lanyard & blue namecard) / ensure the children are dehydrated• Activities to end at 11.00am sharp

Event OutlineBooth Activities

• Timekeeper for the booth activities (95 minutes for 10 booths); Facilitate the process to ensure that there are time for all the activities (Emcees at the hall will prompt the timing at intervals)• If the booth is crowded, move to the next booth• Yukata/Tea Ceremony will take slightly longer time as there are photo-taking opportunities with polaroid (recommended to have 1 group at a time, at this booth)• Encourage participation from both the locals and the Japanese students(e.g. Photo-taking can be taken in pairs; games like ‘Hagoita’ and ‘Menko” can be played between the locals and the Japanese)• Gauge the time for each activities as shown in the next few slides

Event OutlineBreak Time

• Break Time 11.00 – 11.15am• For students participating in the Taiko Drum performance (interaction), to report at the stage at 11.05am (Group leaders to take note)• Ensure that your group members are with you at all times• Toilets are allocated outside the hall, at the entrance; and across the corridors• Get your group to be seated around the hall, in front of the stage by 11.10am (next performance starting at 11.15am)

Performances• Taiko Drum Performance (pre-selected students to participate) on stage• Karate performance on stage• Turn around to face the raised platform for the next performance item• Folk Dance Performance (there will be audience participation after the performance where all will join in the dancing) – to lead and getting all your group members to dance together

Event Outline

Lunch• Group leaders to collect the lunch for your group (the lunch are already pre-packed in group numbers)• To collect the goodie bags at the same time (goodie bags for both local students and Japanese students)• Note: To pass the goodie bags over to the local students first, and get them to hand over the bags over to the Japanese students (listen out for emcee announcement)• Sit around in hall to eat (preferably stay in group)

Event OutlineEnd of event

• After finishing lunch, at about 1.20pm (listen to emcee announcement), to gather and sit in the front of the hall• Tokens of appreciation are handed over at the stage, followed by closing speech• The teacher-in-charge will form the children back into their columns, with the locals at one side and the Japanese students on the other• Wait for instruction to leave with the local students back to the entrance
