WITNESS,

Val aria Mar7688 S. EatonLittleton, CC303-972-64S80/0 mother; Norma Mar

father; Arturo Mar (w) 303-971-5656-CHS student; dropped backpack off in oafeteria at table KK; was inlunch line at Rebel Corner when incident began; was in lunoh linewith Margot llrown; has no suspeot or duffle bag information

INVESTIGATION,

On May 6, 1999 at 1829 hours I oontaoted Valaria Mar at her home foran interview. Her 1llOther was present. While at the home, I alsointerviewed Valaria's twin brother, Arty, who was in a science room

during the incident until rescued by SWAI'. Vlllaria then told me thefollowing:

• She is a freshman at Columbine High School.

• When asked about Eric Ha=is, she said that she does not knowhim by face or name. She may have seen him in a trench coat once ortwice in school, hut she was not sure.

1Jc.o01.003641

Page 42: Columbine Report Pgs 3601-3700

* When asked about Dylan Klebold, she said that she does not knowhim by face or n~e.

* When asked, she did not know

-* She did not know any other trench coat students or associates. She has only seen the one student once or twice in school this year.

* She has never heard of the name "Trench Coat Mafia."

* She did not see any SUSpJ.OJ.ous objects in sohool that day. When asked specifically, she did not see any duffle bags.

* On the day of the shooting, she had a 4th hour ceramics classin the art area of the school. She stayed a few minutes late inthat class to help clean up. At about 11:15 a.m. she walked down to

the library with Margot Brown. Margot was going to spend the lunchtime in the library.

* She then walked down to a table in the cafeteria and droppedher backpack off on a chair to reserve her spot. She did not knowwho else may have been at that table as she ~~d her friends usuallysit at three tables that are grouped together. She looked at thediagram and said she dropped her pack off at table KK. This was thelocation her pack was recovered from. She and her friends sit at

KK, LL, and FFF.

* After she dropped her pack off, she went to Rebel Corner to geta meal. She was joined by Margot Brown who decided not to spend the

lunch hour in the library.

* While in the line to get her food, she saw several studentsgoing out the south doors. A few minutes later she saw the studentscome back in. She then saw everyone in the cafeteria getting down

under the tables. She then moved over to one of the tables by RebelCorner and got under it. She then follo_d a group out of the

2 JC-001· 003642

Page 43: Columbine Report Pgs 3601-3700

cafeteria that went down to the foreign language area. She waun<:l up

in a Spanish class that is in the far southeast corner of that

area. She went under a desk for about 5 minutes. She hear<:l 3 or 4

gunshots or explosions Two unknown teachers then had them run out

the south exit door by that classroom and through the lot to a

Mormon hcuse on Polk Street. She said that she stayed in the garage

to that home. she dd.d not hear anything else.

• She did not see any suspects.

.. She wa.s wearing jeans i a cream colored vest J and black sandals

on the day of the sheeting.

• She added that a girl who sits in front of her in her 1st hour

geometry class told her on the morning of the shooting that a lot of

people were going to get "high" that day. She said the girl said it

was "4-20 day." There wu also a mention about police. {This is

consistent with information about "4-20" being the code and a date

fer marijuana smokers.) She thought: the name of this girl was

Michelle.

this concluded my interview with Valaria Mar.
