THIS MONTH’S HIGHLIGHTS

Congratulations and Best Wishes to our 4-H Scholarship Recipients! Good luck in your future endeavors! Kyler Stassi, Arbuckle 4-H; Wyatt Perry, Maxwell 4-H; Maureen La Grande, Maxwell 4-H; Theresa La Grande, Maxwell 4-H; Oscar Valencia, Williams 4-H

WELCOME OUR ALL STAR FOR 2017-18, EMMA DOHERTY!

Our 4-H All Star is Emma Doherty of Arbuckle. One of her favorite 4-H memories was from one of her early years in 4-H when she showed Rabbits. She had a Holland Lop named Paco and he was “the best show bunny ever!” He was awarded Best of Breed that year and won 1st place in Novice Showmanship that year.

After Rabbits, she moved on to showing lambs and has done so ever since. She shows the lambs through FFA, and her 4-H projects are Embroidery and Wool Felting.

Emma has been an officer for Arbuckle 4-H for the past two years serving as Attendance Secretary and Recording Secretary. This year she is the Vice President.

Besides 4-H and FFA, she is involved in the Pierce High School Volleyball team, Golf team, Junior Class President, and Dynamix Club Volleyball.

Council meetings take place on the 3rd Wednesday of every other month. The next council meeting is Wednesday, July 19, at 6:30 p.m. in the CIP Conference Room. All club representatives, volunteers and youth are welcome. Decisions are made here. Join us! Any questions, please contact 530.458.0570

The time is now to let your Community Club leader or our office know if you are going to be a project leader for the 2017-18 4-H year. Please let us know if you know of anyone else who is willing to help us out and become a 4-H leader as well! We always welcome new volunteers!

If you are cleaning out closets and find that you have some whites, you no longer need or have been out-grown, please drop them by the office. We also have a limited supply of white shirts.

Plans are in the works for the Home Ec Tour! Make sure you get your forms in so that you can spend a

day at the California State Fair. Enjoy the 4-H Cooking Challenge, experience the many food choices and

maybe try something new? And view the many exhibits that are there!

To qualify for the Home Ec Tour, members must fill out a sheet that lists the projects they have entered in

the fair, FCS Review, Craft Expo., and Presentation Day. The scores are then totaled up and the person

with the highest scores get to attend the tour! There is still time to get the Home Ec Tour forms in! They

are due on June 30 to the 4-H Office!

Mark your calendars for Friday, July 21! Join fellow California 4-H alumni and friends for an evening of networking, dinner, and fun with California 4-H youth! The evening will start with a 3 course dinner at a lo-cal Italian restaurant. From there, you join youth from across California as they kick-off this year’s State Leadership Conference held on the UC Davis campus.

Event Details

4-H members ages 9 and older are invited to participate in teams of 3 in the 4-H State Cooking Competition at the California State Fair.

General rules:

Each team will consist of 3 youth members. Teams register themselves for the division they will compete in.

Each team will have 15 minutes to gather items from the pantry and 60 minutes to prepare their meal.

Reglas generales:

Cada equipo consta de tres miembros (niños y/o jóvenes). Los equipos deben inscribirse en la división en la que desean competir.

Cada equipo tendrá 15 minutos para tomar los ingredientes de la alacena y 60 minutos para preparar un platillo.

Un panel de jueces probará los platillos en cada nivel y división y elegirá al equipo ganador.

Cada equipo puede traer un utensilio para usar durante la competencia.

Cada equipo debe lavar sus platos sucios y regresarlos después de la competencia.
