My documentary 'Inside Of Me' is a participatory mode
(Bill Nicholls) following a very sensitive narrative. In my
main product I confront my parents, which makes it
personal as its based on sensitive subjects related to
myself and family. I wanted the narrative of my
documentary to reflect in both of my ancillary products;
the ancillaries I created were a listings magazine and
radio advertisement.
I integrated sound clips from my documentary into my
radio trailer. The method behind this is that for those that
hear the advertisement and then watch the documentary
they will be able to remember particular clips that they
heard on the radio trailer. This allows the audience to
relate the radio advertisement to the actual documentary,
as well as being able to associate with the events that are
discussed. Using my own voice for the radio trailer is
effective as it shows I've created the documentary myself
and also arranged any advertisements, highlighting that I
want people to hear and watch my story as I created it for
a purpose.
My listings magazine gives the audience more depth into the
documentary as it asks further questions to my step dad and myself. This
is effective as the audience who do watch the documentary can gain more
knowledge about why I created it and the reasons behind my step dad not
taking part. Yet again these create effect as for those who haven't seen
the documentary but have read the article this may persuade them to
watch it to find out the story behind these interviews. The star ratings
and reviews included in my newspaper article are another effective
method on influencing those who haven't watched it that it is worth
watching, as the audience are more likely to believe opinions of those
from the general public as they are less biased. The images used are both
screenshots from the final product and images in which I took myself;
therefore this reflects the documentary and family life outside of filming.
