THE MEMORARE
Remember, O most loving Virgin Mary, that it is a thing unheard of,
that anyone ever had recourse to your protection, implored your help,
or sought your intercession, and was left forsaken.
Filled therefore with confidence in your goodness I fly to you, O Mother,
Virgin of virgins. To you I come, before you I stand, a sorrowful sinner.
Despise not my poor words, O Mother of the Word of God,
but graciously hear and grant my prayer. Amen.
The Church con-
cludes the Easter
season with the feast
of Pentecost. Pente-
cost, which means
‘fiftieth’ was the sec-
ond of the three im-
portant annual feasts
in the Jewish Calen-
dar: Passover, Pente-
cost and Tabernacle.
Pentecost occurred
seven weeks after
Passover and was mainly a celebration of
thanksgiving for the harvest - a feast of new
grain and new wine. The first fruits of the
wheat crop were offered to God. Hundreds of
Jews living outside Palestine and who spoke
other languages also attended this feast.
As you can imagine, it was fitting that this
special feast day was chosen by God for the
outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the twelve
Apostles and the Blessed Virgin Mary. On
Pentecost, the New Israel (the Church) was
born. On this day, the Christian religion was
made universal and the gift of tongues or
many languages was the proof. In the first
reading and the gospel, we are given accounts
of how the disciples
first received the gift
of the Holy Spirit.
In the second reading
from St Paul’s first
letter to the Corinthi-
ans, these gifts of the
Holy Spirit were ex-
plained. The gifts of
the Holy Spirit is not
only given to each
individual Christian
but also it is given for
the benefit of the church. Our gifts, talents
and abilities that we receive from the Holy
Spirit are to be used in service to God and the
Body of Christ - the Church. As we celebrate
Pentecost, let us ask the Holy Spirit to take
control of our lives; both in words and actions.
O Holy Spirit, Soul of my soul, I adore You.
Enlighten, guide, strengthen and console
me. Tell me what I ought to do and command
me to do it. I promise to be submissive in eve-
rything that You permit to happen to me,
only show me what is Your will. Amen.

CAFOD Coronavirus Emergency Appeal.
The effects of coronavirus on developing
countries where CAFOD works are likely to
be devastating. Families without enough to
eat and without access to clean water and
healthcare are particularly vulnerable to
coronavirus. The poorest and most
marginalised communities will be pushed
further into poverty. Your prayers and gifts
are needed now more than ever to help
protect the lives of those in poor
communities. While we are not able to hold
physical collections in our church, you can
donate as individuals at cafod.org.uk/
coronavirusappeal.

PRAYERS
Act of Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that you are present in this
Holy Sacrament of the altar. I love you above
all things and I passionately desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive
you sacramentally, come spiritually into my
soul so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever. Amen.
Novena Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Come, O Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your
faithful, and enkindle in them the fire of your
love.
V. Send forth your Spirit, and they shall be
created.
R. And You shall renew the face of the
earth.
Let us pray: O God, who taught the hearts of
the faithful, by the light of the Holy Spirit,
grant that by the gift of the same Spirit we
may be always truly wise and ever enjoy in His
consolation. Through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Come, O Holy Spirit, enlighten my
understanding so that I may know your
commands; strengthen my heart against the
snares of the enemy; enkindle my will … I
have heard your voice, and I don’t want to
harden my heart and resist, saying “later …
tomorrow.” Now! Lest there be no tomorrow
for me!
O, Spirit of truth and wisdom, Spirit of
understanding and counsel, Spirit of joy and
peace! I want what you want, I want it
because you want it, I want it as you want it, I
want it when you want it.
Holy and divine Spirit! Through the
intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, your
Spouse, bring the fullness of your gifts into
our hearts. Comforted and strengthened by
you, may we live according to your will and
may we die praising your infinite mercy.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Due to COVID-19 the Church is closed until
further notice. The Mass is celebrated daily
at 12noon & 6pm but without a public
congregation. Please note that on Saturday,
6pm Mass is the Sunday Vigil Mass. In these
emergency circumstances, the obligation to
attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days is
removed (CCC #2181). If you have internet
access, Mass can be watched live on:
www.catholicenfield.org
Mass Intentions. As public Masses cannot
be celebrated at this time, it is generally no longer appropriate for priests to celebrate
Mass more than once a day, including on
Sundays. This will mean that some Masses which were to be celebrated on Sunday for a
special intention would now not be
celebrated. In these situations, and only whilst these very exceptional circumstances
continue, it is necessary for a Sunday Mass to be celebrated for more than one intention. If
you have arranged to have a Mass celebrated
on Sunday for a specific intention and do not wish to have that intention included with
other intentions, in what is known as a
Collective Intention Mass, please contact the parish office.
Offertory Envelopes. As everyone is aware
the distribution of the new offertory boxes
with weekly envelopes could not happen due
to COVID-19 lockdown. Many parishioners
have called in and collected their boxes
directly from the presbytery. As we are not
supposed to encourage anybody to leave
home but for necessities, as from this week,
