The passenger train conductor carried redeemed tickets or stubs, as well as cash in
a locked case.
This case is a very early one, dating to the 1860s or 1870s.
The cap is a well known symbol of the passenger train conductor. The North American style conductor’s cap was a
variation on the military “Kepi”.
The uniform buttons were usually customized for individual railroads. A number of pockets were likely used for storing items used by the
owner- ticket stock, a punch, schedule, money, and so forth.
