• No more than 2 or 3 floor high.
WAS THERE A BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RICH AND POOR PEOPLE’S HOuSES?
• BIG DIFFERENCE. • NOwADAyS PROmINENT LANDLORDS DON’T LIvE IN THE TOwER HOuSES OR PALACE THAT STILL
can be found in town. • Most of those people went to MadriD or other capitals because of business
reasons or other career interests. • Now, many of THOSE HOUSES BELONG TO THE TOWN COUNCIL, banks or other institutions.
ROOMS
• The most important room was the kitchen.
• 4 rooms in each house.
HOuSE OWNERS • Wealthy people owned houses and also
farms. • Most working people lived in rented houses
in town. • Farmers often used to live in rented lands
and farmhouses. • Until quite recently most people have been
able to buy their own hoses. • The price of flats has usually been very
expensive. At least two salaries in a family have been normally necessary to pay bank mortgages.
• The price of real estate has been dropping for the last year but it is still expensive and Banks do not give mortgages or loans so easily.
• An increasing number of families run the risk of eviction from their flats because CAN’T PAy bACK mORTgAgES TO bANKS.
• Nowadays not so many people live in rented houses but this may be probably the only solution for young couples and those who cannot afford to get a loan.
THE LIGHT
• wax Candles and oil were used for lighting in the houses.
• Electric power started to arrive about a century ago.
• most houses started to have electrict light in the town and more slowly got to farms too.
• In that time, street light was given by gas lamps. They produced light by burning oil.
WATER AT HOUSES • They had running water at home only to drink and to cook. • To wash clothes, bedclothes or linen they used to go to an old
laundry place.
• Water from streams or underground well in the mountains was brought along pipes down to fountains in town.
BATHROOM AND TOILETS • There were not bathrooms
at home.
• They used to wash in their room or kitchen with a washbasin.
• There was no shower.
• There was a hole as toilets.

sinkholes beneath houses which were cleaned periodically or .
• The sewage system poured
