HISTORY
COMET 1.0
The development of COMET started in 2003 with support from UEFA, and was fully imple-mented at the Croatian Football Federation by 2005. Since then, the system was continu-ously functionally expanded and technologi-cally enhanced.
COMET 2.0
In 2010, a new generation was launched, combining maturity, stability and reliability of the classical COMET, with the cutting-edge AJAX/JSF user interface technologies, signifi-cantly enhancing the system's user experi-ence.
COMET 3.0
In late 2013, following the expansion of COM-ET to the global market, a third generation is released, upgrading the back-end architec-ture, to be ultra-performant, scalable, mul-titenant, mobile and ready to be deployed in the Cloud.
COMET 4.0
In 2017, a state-of-the-art fourth generation of COMET was released, featuring native mo-bile applications for Android and iOS devices, offline data synchronization, integration with FIFA Connect, and a new reporting/analytical engine.

RegistrationThis module enables the processes of registration and administration of all football stake-holders, organizations and facilities. Its functions are generally divided by stakeholder type: Associations, Clubs, Facilities, Players, Coaches and Staff, Referees and Officials, Intermedia-ries. Within the Registration module, the Players subsystem functions are among the most intensively used ones, simply because a football organization has far more players, than all other individuals and organizations taken together. This subsystem maintains all personal, contact and football-related information about players, and manages all player-related busi-ness processes like registration, national and international transfers, clearances, contracts, loan agreements, etc.

Competition Standard This module enables setup and administration of competitions of all types and at all levels, and management of standard match reports. Beyond the Scheduling and Administration of Competition, it includes automated and manual allocation of officials, and standard pre-match and post-match reports. Match events can be entered real-time (live) from mobile devices like smart phones (e.g. iPhone, Android) and tablet computers, and then instantly exported for live publishing on websites.

Discipline This module enables management of the entire lifecycle of disciplinary proceedings/cases, all types of sanctions, and compliance with competition regulations. This module has a 2-way integration with Competitions. All bookings and disciplinary infringements that are re-ported during a match, are automatically submitted to the Disciplinary bodies for processing, while the Disciplinary body's decisions are fed back into the Competition Module, setting and updating various types of suspensions to individuals.

System Architecture and Design The system’s architecture and design are based on cutting-edge technologies, industry best practices, and most widely used design patterns and frameworks. The system architecture is modular, flexible and extensible, allowing smooth upgrades and adaptations to other natio-nal associations.
The system is based on Java EE architecture and is hence portable to different databases and operating systems. Our company and employees have numerous awards and recogniti-ons in the Java EE area.
The system is scalable, allowing to start small, and add hardware resources later as nee-ded. The architecture is ultra-performant and multitenant, which means that one application instance can be used by multiple tenants/clients. Therefore, COMET can be smoothly de-ployed in the Cloud.
Security and Data Integrity Security and Data Integrity have the highest priority in our development process, and are always preserved by using the highest security standards, similar to those used in finance/banking IT systems..
Data access and transaction execution security is enforced across multiple dimensions (e.g. based on user's organisational role, affiliation to club, match allocation...etc).
Transaction logging (Black box): each and every read/write transaction is registered and securely stored, including user, timestamp and all relevant transaction data.
SSL protocol (2048-bit) is used to encrypt all data transferred over the network.
Nightly database backups are executed and safely stored on two distinct locations.
A redundant application instance ensures that the system can promptly be restored in case of general failure.
Reporting Engine COMET can generate more than 450 reports, analyses and statistics related to players, coaches, referees, clubs, disciplinary, competitions, organizations and national teams. Clear design and report dependent parameters enable easier orientation when looking for specific information. The main features are:

Integration All data in the system COMET may, in accordance with its confidentiality class and business rules, be consumed by other applications. It may be accessed via REST API/web services in the FIFA Connect Data standard format. All data from COMET is accessible to other applications in real-time, i.e. immediately. Our clients use data from COMET in order to either publish them to wider audiences via web sites or mobile applications, or to 3rd party business applications.

FAME
UEFA – COMET Data Exchange COMET is the first Football Management System in the world that has implemented a Data Exchange procedure between 2 football organisations, namely between the Croatian Football Federation and UEFA. This procedure is today being used by all European national associations using COMET.
All international matches governed by UEFA (qualifiers for European and World Cups, Final European Cup tournaments, for all national teams and all all age categories...) are are automatically imported into COMET from the UEFA FAME system. This procedure is very fast, removes the need for manual entry, and improves the quality of data. This Data Exchange procedure, using the FIFA Connect Data Standard can be reused for any national association, to exchange data with other associations, with their respective confederation (e.g. UEFA, CONMEBOL...), and with FIFA.
Globalization and Localization The superior modular design allows for great flexibility and adaptability of the system, which is today adjusted to: Multiple languages and locale settings: English, Croatian, Slovenian, Albanian, Macedonian, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, Bosnian, Serbian, Russian, Romanian, Lithuanian, Montenegrin, Georgian, Greek, Finnish, Simplified Chinese, French, Dutch, LatvianMultiple alphabets: Latin, Cyrillic, Arabic, Greek, Georgian Multiple directions: Right-to-Left (Arabic) and Left-to-Right (All others)
The system can be easily adjusted to any other languages, locale settings, and of course to any specific business rules and regulations of a national football association.
Barcode/QR Code Identification cards of Players, Coaches...etc can be printed directly out of COMET onto the PVC plastic format (standard dimensions of a credit card). These ID Cards may incorporate a Barcode/QR Code for purpose of retrieving data, and authenticating the owner of the ID Card.
The most widely used is the QR Code, which can be read by any smart phone (e.g. iPhone, Android...). This is a simple and accessible method for officials to scan the card of an individual, and check whether she/he is correctly registered, has any active suspensions...etc

COMET is a 100% internet-based system, and it can be used:anytime – 365 days a year, 24/7anywhere – where an internet connection existson all most frequently used browsers (e.g. MS Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, etc…)on all types of devices, including smart phones (e.g. iPhone, Android...) and tablet computers (e.g. iPad)
Mobility
The entire functionality of COMET can be used on all types of devices, including smart phones (e.g. iPhone, Android...) and tablet computers (e.g. iPad).
Our Native Mobile Apps for Android and iOS devices allow users to easily enter lineups and match events live on the match day using their smartphones. In fact, all standard match day operations can be fully executed on the pitch using mobile apps, and without the need for a laptop.
Our Native Mobile Apps can be also used in offline mode, without internet access. Once the device is again connected to the internet, the changes are synchronized with the server.
Users of our iOS/Android Native Mobile Apps are notified of any relevant changes onto the home screen of their smartphone using push notifications. E.g. when a referee is appointed to a match, she/he will immediately receive a push notification to her/his smartphone (in addition to an e-mail notification).
Design Themes Every end-user can customize its user interface by selecting and changing on-the-fly one of 30 various design themes. This useful user-friendly functionality is a result of a professional system design, that strictly decouples the user interface layer from the business logic layer.
Geolocation It is possible to enter geographical coordinates (Latitude and Longitude) for all addresses/locations in the system. These coordinates are easy to retrieve and are then used to display the location in a Google Maps window in COMET, which can be used e.g. for a match official, when he plans his travel to the stadium.
Additional functionalities can help the user optimize/correct the geographical location (DraggableMarker), or have a look in more detail into the selected address/location (StreetView).
File Upload Each entity in the system may have various documents and multimedia files attached to it. It is possible to predefine upfront which files are mandatory and which ones are optional. E.g. a player registration may require that a copy of a National ID or Passport is uploaded.
Except for documents, the files that are most often attached are photos (for Players, Coaches, Officials, etc.), logotypes (for Clubs, Associations, etc.), or pictures (e.g. for Stadiums)..
All these files can be quickly uploaded into COMET directly from your Desktop, using the very useful “Drag&Drop“ function.
Photos (e.g. of players, or application users) can be taken directly from COMET (using your computer camera) and then cropped to the correct dimensions. That photo is then automatically uploaded into COMET.
Navigation and Search The navigation and search functionalities in COMET are intuitively organized, according to the highest Web 2.0 standards, and help the user get to the necessary function or information as quickly as possible. In addition to the main menu located on the left side of the screen, the system provides the possibility to use two additional general-purpose menus (“Dock“ and “Stack“).
All COMET functions can be executed in only one browser window, without the need to open additional tabs, windows, or interrupt the ongoing process.
A general Search field, is always accessible in the upper-left part of the screen and can be used to access any piece of information in COMET. If more complex search criteria are required, an Advance Search functionality is available for all entities.
COMET uses Autocomplete, which is a very useful tool, that makes suggestions to the user as she/he types data into a field. Autocomplete is present in all most popular web applications, like Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo, Google Apps, etc.
