‘30,000 feet view’: The big picture of Dalal Street
Good Morning & Welcome to Monday's trading action at Dalal Street, dated 22nd of
October 2018.
Judging by Friday's negative close at Dalal Street and this morning's early action at SGX
Nifty, it appears that the bears will again be on a rampage. Expect fresh drubbing with
weak global cues providing as catalyst for further fall. Also, Dalal Street investors' grapple
with:
1. Recent string of defaults by non-banking financial firms on debt repayment.
2. Unabated foreign fund outflows on concerns over a slowing world economy.
3. Upcoming state elections.
4. Lingering trade war between the US and China
5. Geopolitical tensions. (Saudi Arabia- U.S.)
The big question: Sell everything??
Luckily, most of the market participants had expected this sell-off.
Last week's selling at Dalal Street indicated that Nifty bears were sharpening their claws
on the benchmark index. The charts were ugly and indicated our stock markets to come
under immense pressure in the near term.
Now technically, Nifty’s immediate support is at 10,138 mark. If Nifty moves below this
10,138 support then it makes sense to unload stocks as the next bear's goalpost would be
at 9751-9851 zone, way below the psychological 10,000 mark.
So for traders, its sell at the bell and for a guy with investment mindset it’s time to keep
extremely low profile.
Outlook for Monday: It is not good time to be a bull.
Ahead of the opening bell, the SGX Nifty is getting fresh drubbing, down 51 points at
10273.50. Expect volatility to be hallmark of this week's trading sessions as all October's
futures & options contracts on the NSE get expired on Thursday, October 25.

GLOBAL CUES:
• Wall Street ended mostly lower on Friday as as weak housing data overshadowed
solid corporate earnings. For the week, the Dow Jones index gained 0.4% and the
S&P 500 rose fractionally, successfully snapping a three-week retreat while the
Nasdaq shed 0.6% to extend losses into a third week.
• Chinese stocks have tumbled to four-year lows. China's yuan sinks to a 22-month
low against the U.S Dollar.
FII/DII & OPTIONS DATA:
• As per Friday’s Provisional Data available on the NSE, FII’s sold shares worth Rs.
618.26 crores in the Indian Equity Market. DIIs too sold shares worth Rs. 2.14
crores in the Indian Equity market.
• In the first three weeks of October 2018, foreign investors have pulled out close to
Rs 32,000 crore from the Indian capital markets. For September 2018, the net
outflow was only Rs 21,000 crore. Prior to that,FIIs had put in a net amount of Rs
7,400 crore in the capital markets (both equity and debt) in July-August.
• So far this year, FPIs have pulled out over Rs 33,000 crore from equities and more
than Rs 60,000 crore from the debt markets.

10,600 strike price. Key support level for the October series is at 10,000 as
Maximum Put open interest of 33.53 lakh contracts was seen at the 10,000 strike
price.
COMMODITY CUES:
• Crude-oil prices slipped further in Friday's trade. Confirmation of strength only
above 5389. Interweek strategy: Establish long positions between 4969-5000 zone,
targeting 5233 zone and then aggressive targets at 5369 with stop at 4771..
• Copper prices were seen trading rangebound in Friday's trade with slight positive
bias. Interweek strategy: Establish long positions between 443-447.50 zone,
targeting 465 mark and then at 479 with stop at 431.
• Gold price traded rangebound in Friday's trade. Key medium term support seen at
31201 mark. Interweek strategy: Establish long positions between 31701-31751
zone, targeting 32451 mark and then aggressive targets at 32851-32901 with stop
at 31201.
Tuesday: ADANIPORTS, AKSHOPTFBR, AMBUJACEM, BAJAJCORP, BAJAJFINSV,
In last week's trade, JSW STEEL was seen trading
at lower levels. We expect the stock to trade with
a negative bias and was should attempt to
breakdown from a lower consolidation zone on
the daily charts.
Technically, the stock is in consolidation mode at
lower levels and the momentum oscillators are
signaling a major breakdown. Any move below
354 zone will confirm weakness which also needs
to be backed by increases in volumes. The stock
is seen moving down on daily charts, backed by
negative reverse divergences.
Key support to watch in near term is at 354 zone
and then at 344. Medium term supports seen at
321-325 zone.
We expect JSW Steel to underperform the
benchmark Nifty significantly.
Establishing short positions between 365-371
zone, as the stock is likely to stage steep decline
towards 344-347.50 zone and then aggressive
targets seen at 321-325 zone. Place stops above

MACRO WATCH:
• The landscape is bit scary especially on the escalating trade tension between U.S-China. This catalyst could be the real villain rattling
worldwide stock markets. The heightened tensions between U.S. -China could not only hamper U.S. economic growth but derail the global
economy at large. At the time of writing, a tit-for-tat tariff battle between Beijing and Washington remains intact.
• The upcoming assembly elections in five states: Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram and Telangana. While
Chhattisgarh will go to the polls in two phases on November 12 and 20, the Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram Assembly elections will be held on
November 28. Polling in Rajasthan and Telangana will be held on December 7. Counting of votes will be held across all the five states on
December 11.
• The Federal Reserve remains on its gradual rate-hike path.
CURRENCIES & BONDS:
• The Indian rupee last week closed at Rs. 73.32 to a dollar, strengthening by 24 paise from its previous week's close of 73.56. Key support
now at 71.75. Intermonth strategy: Buy between 71.75-72 zone, targeting 75 and then aggressive targets at 77 with strict stop below 71.45.
• China’s politically sensitive yuan sank to a 22-month low against the dollar in last week's trade after the U.S. Treasury declined to label
Beijing a currency manipulator amid a mounting tariff battle.
The closely watched yuan fell to 6.9411 per dollar at mid-morning, coming its closest to breaking the symbolically significant level of seven to
the greenback since December 2016. It recovered slightly in the afternoon.
The yuan, also known as the renminbi, or “people’s money,” has declined by almost 10 percent against the dollar since April as China’s
economic growth cooled and U.S. and Chinese interest rates went in opposite directions.
What Technical Tells Us on Nifty:
The benchmark Nifty tanked in Friday's trade amidst high volatility, down 1.43% to settle at 10303.55. The market breadth, indicating the overall
health of the market, was weak. The BSE Mid-Cap index fell 1.10%. The BSE Small-Cap index fell 1.32%..
Technically speaking, key support for the day on Nifty is at 10,138 mark. The technical landscape will worsen further if Nifty closes below
the 10,138 mark as that would open the door to massive technical selling, possibly quickly towards the 9750-9900 zone.
The intraday bias is negative and sell at bell should be the preferred strategy.
The make or break hurdles are at 10,775 mark. Intraday hurdles at 10,401 mark.
The price action for Nifty is suggesting that we are likely to see an 10,001-10,711 range in near term with neutral bias.
Bulls Vs. Bears: Time to Pick a Side!!
Volatility likely to be the hallmark of today's trade.
Preferred trade on Nifty: Nifty (10303.55): Sell
between 10351-10375 zone, targeting 10138 zone and
then aggressive targets at 10001-10101 zone with stop
at 10451.
Preferred trade on Bank Nifty: Nifty (25086): Sell
between 25110-25300 zone, targeting 24200 zone and
then aggressive targets at 23750 zone with stop at
25851.
