Start With Trust

Technicians You Can Trust With Your House Keys!®

You may have noticed that the BBB recently changed its logo and added the words “Start With Trust.” At Anthony Plumbing, Heating and Cooling, our registered slogan is “Technicians you can trust with your house keys.”® Just like the BBB, we ensure that the highest standards of trust are set and maintained.

Your home or business is a valuable asset. We readily accept the seriousness of the obligation to provide you with trusted technicians that deliver safety, health and comfort. Our technicians are background-checked, criminal-free, drug-free, and fully uniformed, they display photo IDs and even have their photos on the sides of their trucks. You can have the same technician back at each visit – just like small town service. Anthony is locally owned and committed to the highest level of customer service.

In this day and age, security is a huge concern. We all need to be concerned about who we let in our homes. With Anthony, you will not get a glorified filter changer or a newly minted “technician” that has to meet a sales quota every day. You also will not get a new house construction worker who is not used to performing work in a furnished home. Our technicians possess a much higher skill level than a new house construction worker or trainee!

If you are an existing customer reading this, thank you for your loyal patronage. If you are considering becoming a customer, do what the BBB says - “Start With Trust” and switch to Anthony Plumbing, Heating and Cooling.

Trust is Everything by Steve Burbridge, Customer Relations/Co-Owner & former BBB Board Member

I wholeheartedly agree with the new BBB (Better Business Bureau) logo!

Goodbye Incandescent Bulbs In addition to raising auto fuel efficiency standards 40 percent, an energy bill passed on December 18, 2007, banning the incandescent light bulb by 2014.

The President signed the bill into law after the paperwork was delivered in a Toyota Prius hybrid vehicle. Rep. John D. Dingell, chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, said the legislation will boost the energy efficiency of "almost every significant product, tool and appliance that we use, from light bulbs to light trucks."

The phase-out of incandescent light is to begin with the 100-watt bulb in 2012 and end in 2014 with the 40-watt bulb. All light bulbs must use 25 percent to 30 percent less electricity by 2014. By 2020, bulbs must be 70 percent more efficient than they are now.

Australia was the first country to announce an outright ban by 2010.

Critics of Thomas Edison's invention argue it uses more energy to produce light than the compact fluorescent, or CFL, bulb.

While standard light bulbs cost about 50 cents, the spiral CFL sells for about $3. Advocates argue, however, the CFL lasts five years longer and uses about 75 percent less energy.

ASAPAnthony Service Agreement Program

Congratulations to those who acted fastThe sad news is that the government has not renewed the Tax Credit Act which awarded homeowners deductions on their taxes for energy-efficient, money-saving home improvements. So not everyone was in the market for a new high-efficiency furnace or air conditioner. If you missed out though, you have another chance to take advantage of free money. Read KCP&L's Cool Homes Program (page 9)

Print Money with Your AC by Cecil Davis, Operation Manager & Co-owner

Well, OK, you can't exactly print dollar bills using your A/C unit. You can, however, do the equivalent by having a properly operating, efficient air conditioner. In addition, the last thing we want is to have the air conditioner go belly-up during the upcoming hot months. A comprehensive tune-up can help avoid that.

Here at Anthony, we have a lot of fun getting ready for Spring tune-ups (annual maintenance). You may have seen photos of our Technicians You Can Trust with Your House Keys® doing the A.S.A.P. Yeah, it's something like the song "YMCA", only our ASAP saves you money on your utility bills.

It doesn't cost...it pays!

Fresh Air in Your Home... All Year Round!According to the EPA, concentrations of toxic pollutants can be up to one hundred times greater inside a home than outside, even in our smoggiest cities. Poor ventilation in the home can lead to stuffy air and a build-up of unpleasant odors, irritating pollutants and potentially harmful gasses, such as radon or carbon monoxide. As homes are built tighter with better windows, more insulation and higher-efficiency heating and cooling systems, the need for adequate ventilation becomes even more important.

the usual Suspects:Odors - emitted from litter boxes, trash cans, laundry hampers, cooking, smoking, paints and solvents. Gases and vapors - emitted from new carpeting, building materials, cleaning supplies, candles, pesticides, personal care products, glues and adhesives. Stale and stuffy air - a result of today's energy efficient "tight" building techniques. Spring Air Cleaner Special Check inside

back page!

Spring is here...and so are allergies!I had an Aprilaire 5000 installed when I knew I was getting my grandchild. The day it was installed, he crawled over, put his nose right by the air vent, and took a deep, deep breath in. At that point I knew why you call it Aprilaire because that is what it makes my air in my home smell like. Thanks! - J.G. Read more fresh testimonials at www.aprilaire.com

What you Can Do to treat the Symptoms Store volatile chemicals and cleaning products outside the home. •Keep litter boxes away from heating and cooling system vents. •Change your furnace filter according to manufacturer's recommendations. •Have your fireplace and/or wood stove periodically cleaned and inspected. •Clean dryer vents on a regular basis. •Open windows and doors, as weather permits, to replace indoor air with •fresher, outdoor air. Before new carpeting is installed, ask your retailer to unroll and air out the •carpet in a well-ventilated area. Open windows while carpet is being installed. Utilize exhaust fans in bathrooms and ventilation hoods above stove tops. •Ventilate crawl spaces, attics, hobby, and work spaces. •

Spring Rains Cause Major Damage by Paul D’Agostino, Plumbing Supervisor

Did you know that your home is 85% more likely to be damaged by water than

by fire? Water does a lot of damage to homes because the materials homes are made of can be destroyed when penetrated by water: wood, carpet, insulation, plaster, drywall, and more.

Basement flooding and sump pump breakdown can be especially bad due to electrical problems that can arise. We always recommend a sump pump (if you don't already have one), and a battery backup sump pump.

See special offer on page 15

It doesn't have to rain to cause water damage in your home. The average home has hundreds of feet of pipe that carry water to nearly every part of your house. Your home is always one pipe-leak away from flooding. Unless....

We found these handy water alarms that can save your home and everything in it. Just put this little alarm under sinks and it will detect the slightest drop of moisture. They work next to washing machines, toilets that overflow, sump pumps that stop working, under dishwashers, by water heaters, and near floor drains.

Ask our plumber about water alarms... they're on our trucks!

Amazing Water Light Protects YouAsk us to install a beautiful glowing faucet light that tells you the temperature through color. When you turn the faucet on, it glows blue if the water is cold and red if the water is hot. Children enjoy washing their hands in the colored water and it impresses guests who visit your home.

This is the solution for those homeowners who think that air condition-ers are an eye-sore on the outside of their home.

Concealed. It’s an incredible design concept that can be displayed front and center - except no one will see it. It’s the new Concealment Option that makes an outside unit nearly invisible. Front yard, side or back, this nature-inspired design blends right in with your home’s landscaping. So the Affinity Series system - already known for its efficient, quiet operation - is as hard to see as it is to hear. Design. Each unit is painted with automotive-grade powder paint and then coated with a patented hydrographic film, so the beautiful finish is super-durable and extremely weather resistant. The pattern of leaves, limbs and bark has been created to blend in with a wide range of landscapes, from shrubbery to natural grasses to areas with minimal greenery.

So you spent all that money on landscaping.

Now what about the ugly box ?

"Concealment" Heat Pumps and Air Conditioners are the Answer!

Pour the juice concentrate and 1 can of water into a pitcher. Mix to combine, then pour the juice into two ice cube trays, adding raspberries or sliced strawberries if you wish. Freeze. Combine 2 quarts of water and sugar in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil and stir to combine. Reduce to a simmer and cook until the sugar is dissolved, about 1 to 2 minutes. Remove from heat. Strain the lemon juice through a fine sieve into the sugar syrup. Chill. Slit each lemon slice once, from center to rind, then press the slits onto eight glasses. Fill each glass with 3 berry ice cubes and the lemon-ade. Garnish with a mint sprig. Makes 8 glasses.

Wild Mango Tango SmoothieFor this tropical smoothie, select a mango that's ripe but firm enough to peel and slice. 1 cup mango slices, 1 dash white grape juice, 4 scoops vanilla frozen yogurt Combine the mango slices, grape juice and frozen yogurt in a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth. Makes 1 serving.

The Classic Root Beer FloatA root beer float is perfect for kids and adults alike. 1-1/2 cups root beer, 1-1/2 cups vanilla ice cream For a 16 oz. glass, use one scoop of ice cream. Pour in enough root beer to cover. Add another scoop of ice cream to the top, if desired, and serve with a spoon and a straw. Makes 1 serving.

Air Conditioner"Russian" Roulette a game you don't want to play!!! by Frank Laster, Comfort Consultant

Many times I speak to homeowners about replacing their heating and cooling system when they are faced with the choice of costly repairs vs. replacing. the worst time to be faced with this dilemma is when you don't have air conditioning in the heat of summer. It's a well-known fact that most older or undersized air conditioners break down on July 4th, one of the hottest days of the year. You can avoid this problem by planning ahead. Don't play Air Conditioner Roulette, you won't like the miserable results.

here is why it's ok to replace a working air conditioner or furnace:

If it is more than 12 years old, you should consider replacing it with a new high-efficiency system. A new heating and air conditioning system could save up to 50 percent on energy costs. While

these products save you money on utility bills, they also offer a better degree of

comfort in your home. Plus if you do this on a planned basis, you can take the time to

design the perfect system for your lifestyle.

Invite us out to look at your current heating and cooling system. We will tell you what your

system's efficiency is, look at your past utility bills, and advise you on whether or not you can

save a bundle and improve your comfort levels.

How cold was our winter?Near normal temperatures and near normal precipitation charac-terized Kansas City this winter. According to the NOAA's National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, the average winter temperature for the 2006/2007 season was 360. This last winter the average temperature was 32.40. Brrrrrrr !!!

Your Comfort Consultant was very accommodating, staying here until the installation crew came to do the job, so that I could get to work; and then secondly, I just thought it was remarkable how clean and picked up these guys were. Also how much I appreciated that I didn't have to do anything once they left. It was just such a pleasure to be able to walk in my house and know that people were working but I didn't have to deal with the domestic clean-up that many people leave behind; so thank you! - L. Gilgus, Overland Park

We are extremely happy customers and completely satisfied with your employee and the plumbing work he did. The work was done at my daughter's 85-year-old house in the Brookside area. As you can imagine, the house had the old worn-out cast iron drains as well as the lead trap which was leaking. The technician came to the rescue and made her feel at ease with his explanation and recommendations as how to remedy the problem. He even worked around her schedule at work. - T. Hersperger, Brookside

I have known you for years but never had need of your services until now. What a difference between Anthony Plumbing, Heating and Cooling and your competitors! As you know, I have used another company for years just so they can take care of my appliances. Their service is nothing like your service. I have to fight for everything to get them to honor their commitments and they still don't honor them all. And sometimes when they honor them, they overcharge. This is just the opposite of your company. Nothing was stressful. It was easy to get a straight answer to every question, including economic

questions. How nice to have a professional person at your home. - J. Hornack, Overland Park

Your Comfort Consultant was very thorough in his evaluation of the existing furnace and air conditioner and all of my requirements for their replacement. He suggested several options and helped me select the one that best suited my needs. His help was invaluable. The

installation crew finished in one day. They were also thorough and checked every detail to make sure everything was done right.

- W. McKay, Kansas City
