River of Life
In the spring of 2007, I was offered an opportunity that completely changed my life. I was made the youth pastor at Milledgeville FUMC. I had the pleasure of beginning my now over 10-year career in ministry in this wonderful community. It was at that point that I was introduced to one of the most well run local mission projects around. While on staff here, I got to see first hand how much time, effort and prayer goes into being a host church where over 200 youth from across the state can come and have a life transforming experience. After having worked here for two years, Ashley and I moved to Cobb County where I was hired as the Youth Pastor at Acworth UMC. While there I began the journey to get my Masters at Asbury Theological Seminary. And after the birth of our first child, Avery, I accepted the Assistant Pastor/Minister to Youth and Families position at Monroe FUMC. The first order of business for me there was to bring my youth group, rather small at that point, back to Milledgeville for River of Life. It was on that trip that I had five of my youth accept Christ for the very first time. I have been bringing my youth group back every year since. This is my 7th year bringing a group from Monroe and my 10th total year being a part of River of life. This year I have the honor for the second time to be preaching every night during River. We are going to focus on helping students propel their faith beyond just showing up at church and hearing information. My goal is for them to propel their faith forward and putting what they hear about Jesus into practice! This church cares for others. This church is in the business of sharing Christ’s love with EVERYONE. You all have a great Pastor, wonderful staff, amazing laity and devoted disciples. Because of your faithfulness to River of Life over the years, hundreds if not thousands of teens and adults have had hands on experience with serving others and experiencing God in new and exciting ways. So thank you for your vision. Thank you for your generosity. Thank you for your hospitality. And thank you for being the hands and feet of Jesus in Middle Georgia! God Bless and Go Bobcats! Creativity is a reflection of the character of God. From the opening pages of Scripture, we encounter God’s creativity in action. With words, Let there be light, the poem of creation unfolds as light gives way to time, oceans and mountains form, galaxies are set in motion, and the earth is filled with birds, fish, and every creature imaginable. But God is not finished creating. God decided that He wanted His image to populate the earth. He created people in His image to take care and develop His magnificent creation. Humans are unique in that we reflect God in how we interact with each other and the world around us. That interaction includes God’s creativity. We may not form mountains and oceans, but we create art and music, build cities, solve problems, and innovate technology—all of which starts with our God-given creativity. We think it’s important for us to help our kids and families discover more about Creativity—imagining what you could do because you are made in God’s image. Our Memory Verse for June comes from Psalm 139:14. In Psalm 139:14, we read, How you made me is amazing and wonderful. I praise you for that (NIRV). Through this Psalm, David acknowledges God’s continued provision for his life. He worships God for His care and concern for even the smallest aspects of life. Being created in God’s image, means that we are special compared to the rest of creation. We reflect God in amazing and wonderful ways. WEEK 4 Finally, we head to Genesis 3:1-23 and find out what happened when Adam and Eve decided to do what they wanted to do instead of following God’s plan for them. Adam and Eve had one rule: don’t eat fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. But the serpent tempts them, and they decided to give into the temptation so they could become like God. And in a moment, everything changed. All that was perfect was now broken. Thankfully, although the consequences for Adam and Eve were severe, God never gave up on having a relationship with His creation. Bottom Line: God made you to know Him. We know now that God sent Jesus to make a way for us to truly know Him again. We pray that kids will discover that no matter what they’ve done or how far away they feel from God, that Jesus came to make a way for them to be right with God. God made us know Him, and that’s possible because of Jesus. Upcoming Events:
