REPORT OF THE COMMERCE ASSOCIATION FOR THE YEAR 2012-2013
I. INTRODUCTION
Department of Commerce of Pompei College Aikala has the history of 32 years of its
successful functioning. In order to encourage the students and to provide a platform for the
students of department of commerce to carry on their activities, it was decided to form a
Commerce Association. As a result the Commerce Association came into existence.
Commerce association is a means by which the students of commerce can come together and
form themselves as an Association. The students get an opportunity to know, understand and
learn about the world of Commerce. It is a window through which students of commerce get
to know more things.
II. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
1. Provide necessary academic guidance to the students.
2. Provide information about the latest changes in the field of Commerce and
Management.
3. Prepare the students to face the challenges in the field of Commerce and Management.
4. Provide information about career advancement programs.
5. Help the students who seek jobs as clerks, officers…etc in the business enterprises,
courses, financial institutions, and insurance companies ….etc.
6. Help the students to know the various career opportunities available in the field of
business and select those career opportunities which suits to their requirements and
abilities.
7. Help and guide the students to become successful.
8. Help the students to have a thorough knowledge of the various aspects of business and
become successful.
9. Help the students to understand, analyze and solve the problems in managing the
business.
10. All the more, to make the students responsible citizens of the society.
11. Make the students, real leaders of business society.
12. By organizing guest lectures, seminars, make the students well acquainted with latest
information.

13. By organizing Industrial visits, field visits help them to get financial knowledge in the
field of education.
14. Create an awareness of research culture among the students.

1. COMPOSITION
Commerce association is consisting of Commerce Department Commerce association is
constituted in the form of an Executive committee. Two representatives from each B.com
class represent the executive committee.

All the students of Commerce section by virtue become the members of Commerce
Association. In order to meet the expenses, a nominal amount is collected from the members
as membership fee and is used to pay the honorarium to the guest lecturers.

1. Inauguration
The inaugural programme of the Commerce Associationwas held on 06.07.2012. The
inaugurator and chief guest of the function, Mundkur Balakrishna Shetty, by releasing the
college magazine Providence-2012, has spoken about the need of students to involving in a
various cultural and extra-curricular activities. The president of the function, correspondent
of the college, Rev Fr Paul Pinto, has told how cultural activities of students’ enhance the
individual personality. Principal of the college Prof. Patrick Menezes was present. After the
stage programme, Final year students’ have welcomed the First year students’ by florally and
by presenting various cultural items.

2. Essay Competition
Association has conducted Essay Competition on 13.08.2012 in the College Library for the
students of Commerce. Topic of the competition was Commerce Education: Opportunities
and Future Challenges. A total were participated. The winners of the competition were:

3. Quitz Competition
Association has conducted Quitz Competition to its members. It was conducted in two phases
which consisting of written and oral test. Written test conducted on 10.09.2012 at 3.00 pm in
the College Library and oral quitz on 13.09.2012 at 3.00 pm in the III B.Com class. Rules and
regulations were framed by the Co-ordinator of the Association. There were 14 groups, each
group consisting of 3 members, have participated in the written test. Out of 14 groups top 05
were selected to the final phase which was having of oral quitz. And top three were emerged
as victorious out of them. The winners of the competition were:

4. PAN Card Mela
The Association organized a PAN Card Mela on 11, 12 and 23rd
of January 2013 in
association with UAE Exchange, Surathkal Branch, for the benefit of all the students of this
college for their future benefits. It was proud to say that more than 200 students have applied
for the PAN card and made use of this programme a grand success.
5. Talk on Career Advancement and Job Opportunities in abroad
For the benefits of the students in their future, Association has organized a talk onCareer
Advancement and Job Opportunities in abroad on 12.01.2013 in the Audi-Visual hall. Mr.
Suresh Shetty, Business Head, UAE Exchange, Surathkal Branch, who gave brilliant talk,
have told the students about the Career Advancement and how jobs are waiting in the abroad
for the meritorious and who having good career. He spoke about the various facets of Career
Advancement and Job Opportunities in abroad.

Prof.Patrick Menezes give away the prizes to the winners of various competitions of the Association
On 21.03.2013 Association organized a closing ceremony of the Association’s this year’s
academic activities. On the same day it has distributed the prizes of various competitions,
which was conducted by the Association, to the winners. Principal, Prof.Patrick Menezes,
participated as chief guest and distributed the various prizes to the winners. He spoke to the
students to how association’s activities are helpful to those who utilize this. Head of the
Department of Commerce Mr.K.Jagadeesha Holla, Co-ordinator of the Commerce
Association Miss.Akshatha Shetty & Secretary Tara Shetty were present.
VI. FUTURE PLANS
The Commerce Association has the following future plans:
Bringing out at least one collection of Articles written by the students of Commerce.
ICT related skill formation among the students of Commerce.
OrganizingGuest lectures/Seminars/Conferences/workshops/Inter-disciplinary
Programmes&Competitionsand demonstrations by the experts in the field of trade,
industry and commerce.

Field visits/Research Activities.
Encouraging the students to conduct field survey.
Take student to educational tours.
Organizing the seminars, acquaint the students practically with the knowledge of
banking, Insurance and industry by involving the students in the day to-day activities.
Inviting the professionals like, C.A’s, M.B.A’s, Company Secretaries, and ICWA’s to
enrich students with the knowledge and guide them in the respective field.
To see that, the students of B.com are employable graduates in the job markets.
Provide information about career advancement programmes.
