The change in the business of member banks in recent years has been characterized by an increased use of their resources in long-time investments and in loans not arising out of the current requirements of trade and industry and by an increase in the proportion of their liabilities in the form of time deposits* There has been a tendency toward a continuous decrease in the proportion of paper eligible for rediscount.
