Defender Regenerative Media Filters by Neptune BensonThis is a pressure DE filter, which has the following features. The filter footprint is very small given the flow, compared to Vacuum DE or Sand Filters. These filters are designed to use Perlite, a filter media similar to DE but which does not contain crystalline silicate, the Hazardous Component of DE, making Perlite a nuisance dust only, and Perlite is lighter than DE which means it is flushable, with-out clogging drains. When the pressures in a Defender filter rises, instead of backwashing the filter it can be “Bumped”, the media shaken up, redistributed, and reused several times before being replaced. The water usage to maintain/backwash this style of filter is very low. The “Lever Bump” models are very simple and reliable to use, and custom larger models typically have these features power assisted/automated to simplify maintenance. The recommended/ideal flow rate for these filters is 1.2 usgpm/ft2, the maximum flow rate is 2.0 usgpm/ft2. These products carry NSF, UL, and CE certifications. The larger models are priced as requested.
As a replacement filter the Neptune Benson Defender Regenerative Filter requires a small footprint and can be modified to fit thru doorways. This plus the additional benefits described on this page make this the ideal filter to consider when replacing or upgrading older filters. DE Filter Tips• Good precoats are essential to getting flow, clarity and keeping elements clean.
• Normal doseage is 2 ounces of DE per square foot of filter area, or follow manufacturers precoat dosage instruction.
• Object is to deposit at least 1/16” over all parts of filter elements.
• Precoat flow rate should be no more than 1 US gallon per square foot of filter area.
• Maximum filter flow rate should be no more than 2 USGPM per square foot, and preferably in the range of 1 to 1.5 USPGM per square foot.
• Check filter elements for spots not covered by precoat. This normally indicates body oils of grease or mineral staining on the elements which should be cleaned off or it will affect flow and length of filter cycles.
• Check regularly for warped or broken filter elements and repair as required to maintain filter performance and prevent filter media from leaking into pool.
Dryden Aqua Activated Filter MediaThis is made of crushed green and amber glass, sized and activated, and used to replace sand as a permanent media. Multiply the current sand or gravel weight by 0.85 to de-termine amount needed, no filter modifications required, and note the backwash rate required is 18usgpm/square foot.

Variable Frequency Drives (VFD)VFD solutions for your facility. Their purpose is to maximize the energy efficiency of your motors by only feeding the energy required to meet your designed flow rates. As an ex-ample a 20% reduction in pump speed will yield you an approximate 50% reduction in energy usage. Any facility that uses valves to throttle a too large pump or one that runs at a higher flow rate than mandated by the health authorities can benefit from this tech-nology. VFD’s can be tied directly to flow meters that have digital output so that they can adjust flow on the fly during the filter cycle. They also can have optional communication modules to connect to BMS systems through common protocols. Many models also incor-porate ramping on start up (or soft start) which reduces air hammer and pressure issues downstream. This can prolong the life of other equipment like filters in your facility. REPLACEMENT STRAINERSCustom Fibreglass & PVC Strainers Our custom strainers are suitable for both new installations and replacement of older strainers. Custom strainers save time and money for replacement applications since each one can be built to fit existing plumbing.
Strainers are supplied with Vanstone flanges for inlet and outlet connections, an extra long basket to extend run between cleanings, air bleed valve and clear lid. These work well replacing old Hayward and Jacuzzi cast iron strainers as they rust out.
Ordering A Custom StrainerFabricating a strainer to fit existing piping requires just three measurements plus flange sizes for each side. When you place an order we’ll fax a diagram with dimensions to be filled in. If fitting existing plumbing is not a consideration, a standard strainer can be made without any additional information.

Automatic Pump Shutoff DeviceThe Emotron PSP20 works by using the motor as the sensor, detecting the change in motor load caused by suction blockage and shutting down the pump motor in 1 second. Installation is simple, electrical only. There is also no need to disable the device during backwashing or pool vacuuming. The Emotron Panel installs between the pump power supply and the pump. Three pieces of information are required to price and order these items. The motor supply voltage & number of phases and the motor full load amps.

Wide Bodied StrainersThese Wide Bodied Hair and Lint strainers are made from Fiberglass reinforced PVC. They fea-ture one piece 316 Stainless Steel baskets, .25 perforated, which are round with an angled top and handle. Lids are clear acrylic and see-through, with stainless steel and PVC hand knobs. Lid bolts swivel where required for easy removal. The Flanges are Vanstone, free to rotate to make alignment problem free. Configurations can be straight through, offset, or reducing as required. Flange to flange dimensions can be stock; or custom where this is a replacement strainer, to avoid changing plumbing. Due to the wide body these have a very low pressure drop and are typically lower in height than other strainers and suitable for restricted height spaces. For sizes not listed please enquire. Unions-Praher Thread by Slip Unions with O-ring sealsSome products like pumps and dial valves come with plumbing ports that have female pipe threads. Normally pipe threads are tapered, and the threads get larger the more you screw them in to help them seal and be water tight. This can cause pump volutes, strainer, or dial valve bodies with threaded ports to crack or split. These unions are designed to prevent this, the threads are straight, and there is an o-ring to seal. When installing new pumps or dial valves these can be useful accessories to facilitate servicing and prevent damage to equipment.
