This is the first of my monthly newsletters to you as your new commodore-elect. I have a great deal of goals and ideas for the upcoming year, which along with the new Board of Directors, I hope we can accom- plish all of them and then some. Congratulations to the re-elected Board Members and welcome to the new ones. Fasten your seatbelts. We have a lot to do. If you care to see who each Board Member is, shortly their picture will be on the wall. Kind of like “most wanted” posters. I would like to express my sincere and personal thanks to our outgoing Commodore, Janet McCarthy. She had a tough year, actually, three, as Rear and Vice Commodore. Janet’s work ethic and unwavering love for this Club should be a model for all of us. Janet handled herself with grace and integrity. I would also like to thank Jim Gentile our outgoing Treasurer for all his hours of time and hard work also for the last three years. Jim put in more time than anyone and never asked for a single acco- lade. A true asset to our Club The goals I hope to accomplish are the four “F’s” and two “M’s.” What? FISCAL: fix our billing and monthly statistics, collect on our past due Members’ accounts; (our by-laws say after 60 days...suspension), FOOD: improve the quality, variety and have specials, as well as a menu with a little of everything; FAST: insure our orders are correct, hot and timely; (an hour and a half was way too long), FUN: duh! Isn’t this why we joined and/or have boats?!? MEMBERSHIP: We have to continue constantly to sign-up new Members. It is our life’s blood. Otherwise, we vanish! This requires eve- ryone’s help, not just Board Members. MARITIME: we are a yacht club, not just a bar and restaurant. The nautical traditions MUST be maintained. Uniforms should be worn proudly. The Fleet Review should be conducted with the utmost respect and honor. Racing traditions should be kept going. Be a spectator or jump on a boat. Racing is exciting. Our search committee continues to diligently find us a Club Manager who will have the experience we need and be a good fit for us. Our consultant, Mark Stern has been working very hard to identify and recommend solutions in areas that need attention to improve our efficiency and reduce costs. Such as lowering food and alcohol inventories, utilize new vendors that don’t require minimum orders, change the menu, staff training, prepare daily statistics and im- prove the POS System so our lunch and dinner orders are accurate, hot and timely. A good example of efficien- cy is as Chef Sal knows is the use of chicken. Provide a chicken dinner. Also use the chicken in a homemade pot pie, (recent special...delicious!) chicken salad or on a Cesar salad or if there’s any left use it as a joke like, “Why did the chicken cross the street?” (Just checking to see if you’re paying attention.) Congratulations to Phil Edwards, with the help of Steve Theis, for receiving the first place award at this years Ve- netian Night on behalf of the Burnham Park Yacht Club. Also, BPYC has won first place in this year’s Mackinaw Island Race of all the Yacht Clubs for the most points received with five boats from our Club placing well in their sections. A first place trophy. Wow! This Club’s Members are awesome! We rock! Let us all get everything in order for a great Fall and ter- rific upcoming year. Please offer your time and join a committee that interests you. We have wrapped up another boating season with a great Com-modores Ball. A huge thank you for outgoing Commodore Janet McCarthy, it was a pleasure serving with you over the past four years. Now we look forward to working with our new Commodore, Chris Edmonds and our 2016 Board of Directors.

As most have noticed we have brought weekly galley specials in

both the bar and dining room, please watch the breeze for weekly updates.

We are starting to book some holiday parties, if you are planning a holiday gathering, please contact Sam and reserve your date.

As the summer turns to fall and the harbor empties, we are re-minded how much our life's change every year. We are truly blessed to have this incredible hobby and spectacular opportunity to boat and make great friends in the process.

I am thankful for being a part of a unique ladies group that has helped me develop to a deeper understanding of boating, the yacht club traditions and given so much to help bring me along these last two years. It's a special sisterhood that can only be experienced when you become a part of it.

Our meetings have become a lot of great laughter and fun. The auxiliary trivia contest this month was about Venetian night, Vene-tian people, the history of Venetian blinds -- all things Vene-tian. Why not join us on November 6th at 6:30pm as we start up with our new year and new programs.

We have a creative new member in the group. Lynda is working with Geri and Marcella to create Christmas ornaments for sale. Look for these at the Commodores ball and thru the holiday season. These are great for table settings, trimming on packag-

es, holiday hostess gifts, teachers gifts or so many holiday last minute gift ideas.

We are working on replacement of the dining room blinds and curtains by the end of the year. Deb R. has a new design for the dining room although it will have the same type of nautical theme.

The holiday program is dinner and a play on Dec. 4th. It should be a lot of fun at the Royal George theatre. Holiday bingo with dinner earlier at Trattoria Gianna. For more information or to book your seats please email [email protected].

As this is my last article for the Auxiliary, it has been a great 2 yrs. I'll see you at the club as I undertake a new challenge as Secretary of the flag.

Happy thanksgiving and have a wonderful holiday season.
