Common Errors of Premillennialism• The Kingdom Prophecies are made void

(Daniel 2:31-45; Isaiah 2:2-4)

• God’s Power is limited (Mark 9:1; Acts 1:8)

• Christ is Dethroned (Zech. 6:12-13; Acts 2:29-36)

• A Material Kingdom is Sought (Luke 17:20-21; John 18:36-38)

• The Church is made a substitute (Eph. 3:10-11)

• The NT writers are made to sound confused (regarding the kingdom) (Col. 1:13; Rev. 1:5-6)

• Overlook the plan & purpose of Christ’s death (Isaiah 53; Psalm 22; Acts 2:23-36; 1 Cor. 15:17-22)

Premillennial errors in Revelation 19-20• Literal is mixed with figurative to suit their

interpretation:– LITERAL: Physical Battle (Armageddon),

mark of beast, 1,000 years, 1st & 2nd Resurrections.

– FIGURATIVE: Sword from King’s mouth, horses in battle, Beast, Dragon, only those who had been beheaded reign with Christ

• Plain statements regarding the timeframe of the fulfillment are ignored (Revelation 1:1, 3; 17:10; 22:10)

Revelation 20:1-15The Reign With Christ

The Binding of Satan (20:1-6)• Binding Satan refers to limiting his power;

this has occurred in two different ways:– His power over sin and death was destroyed by

the death and resurrection of Christ (Hebrews 2:14-15; Revelation 12:7-9; Matthew 12:27-29; Colossians 1:13; 2:15; Ephesians 1:20-23)

– His power to manipulate a world empire to systematically persecute Christians was taken away when Rome fell (Daniel 7:18-28)

• Satan is prevented from deceiving the nations in this way for 1,000 years (a long period of time)

• The first resurrection represents the “emergence of the cause of Christ out of apparent defeat” (cf. Ezekiel 37:10-14)

The angel cast the dragon “into the bottomless pit,

and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he

should deceive the nations no more till the thousand

years were finished”

Revelation 20:1-15The Reign With Christ

The Loosing of Satan (20:7-10)• The loosing of Satan occurs at the end of

the 1,000 year reign– Evil may once again control powerful

institutions (cf. Matthew 24:36-39)– Ancient enemies of God’s people (Gog &

Magog, Ezekiel 38-39) will again begin to move against God’s people.

• God then destroys the enemies of His people and casts Satan into the lake that burns with fire and brimstone

Revelation 20:1-15The Great White Throne (20:11-15)

• John sees a great white throne–Heaven & earth flee away (2 Peter 3:10-13)

• Everyone is gathered for judgment – Acts 17:30-31; Romans 14:12

• Books were opened (Romans 2:12-16)• The Book of Life was also opened (Exodus

32:32-33; Malachi 3:16-17; Philippians 4:3)• The dead were judged from the books

according to their works (Romans 2:6-11; 2 Corinthians 5:10; John 12:48)

Revelation 20:1-15The Great White Throne (20:11-15)

• The sea and Death and Hades give up their dead (i.e. the spiritually dead, whether in the sea of human society or in the grave)

• Death & Hades were cast into the lake of fire. (cf. 1 Corinthians 15:24-26)

• Anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.– This is the second death (20:14; 21:8)– It is the same eternal punishment

prepared for the devil and his angels (Matthew 25:41; Mark 9:43-48)
