Overview of Jimma University

• Established 1999 from two older institutes • Training and research in various disciplines of agriculture & vet

medicine, health sciences, engineering technology, education & behavioural sc, business and economics, social sc and humanities, law and governance

• Has two research institutes • Staff:

Educational Philosophy Follow a Community Based Educational (CBE)approach as follows; Community Based Training Program (CBTP) Team Training Program (TTP) Developmental Team Training Program (DTTP) _for

Masters programs Student Research Program (SRP)

All strategies are employed in all disciplines except TTP which is mainly for health science students

CBE

It is a means of achieving educational relevance to

community needs.

Consists of learning environment in which

students, teachers, members of the community

MENTORING AND EVALUATING THE PRACTICUM

• New academic staff and students will be oriented before starting CBE

• All practicum activities are supervised by university academic staff on regular basis except TTP program where students are attached to health centers and supervised by both university and health center assigned supervisors.

• Students are expected to present their activities at the end of the schedule
