WHO: Crowded Fire Theater WHAT: You For Me For You WHERE: Potrero Stage (formerly the Thick House) in Potrero Hill, located at 1695 18th Street. WHEN: March 9 – April 1; box office opens at 7:15, show starts at 8:00pm on the dot! CONTACT/NOTES: We're inviting our Bayview neighbors to see our upcoming production of You For Me For You. This is the remarkable tale of two sisters of color, disenfranchised by their country, who make the impossible choice to leave everything they know to cross the border...towards a state of profound self-discovery and actualization. It is a timely interrogation of how individual identity is linked to nationalism and asks what is sacrificed in our blindness to societal and often government supported injustices. This story illuminates the layered complexity of immigration and humanizes the immigrant experience through the ears and eyes of the border-crosser. It's an invitation partially to meet us, the Crowded Fire family, and more urgently to provide a creative space to discuss and combat the violence and demonization of our immigrant communities. Please bring your friends and family to see You For Me For You for free! To reserve tickets for March 9 - April 1, please email [email protected] with your name, date of performance, and the number of tickets you want. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. _____________________________________________________________________________________ WHO: Wealth and Disparities in the Black Community – Justice 4 Mario Woods WHAT: Community Town Hall with Chief William Scott, new SFPD Police Chief WHERE: Joseph Lee Gym, 1395 Mendell (near Oakdale & 3rd), Bayview/San Francisco WHEN: Thursday, March 9, 2017 6pm – 8pm CONTACT/NOTES: Wealth and Disparities in the Black Community – Justice 4 Mario Woods wishes to extend to you an invitation to our upcoming Community Town Hall Meeting with featured guest, San Francisco Police Department Chief William Scott. Since the SFPD execution of Mario Woods in December 2015, Wealth and Disparities in the Black Community – Justice 4 Mario Woods has made three demands: 1. Fire Chief Suhr (or he resigns) – DONE May 19, 2016 -- Suhr stepped down the same day SFPD officers inexplicably murdered Jessica Nelson-Williams, a 26-year-old unarmed African-American woman shot dead while sitting in a car; 2. Charge killer police officers with murder; 3. Conduct an Independent Investigation of the SFPD (specifically, a Department of Justice Civil Rights Pattern and Practice Investigation). Chief Scott was hired to head the SFPD following Chief Suhr’s failed tenure which featured multiple indiscriminate police murders of Black and Brown people. One in which the advances of the last decade are quickly regressing. With anger and frustration, we react, calling our representatives, signing petitions. Reaction is important. Resistance is necessary. But it is not enough. We must also dream. Using this time of darkness to propel us toward an even brighter light; toward a smarter, more powerful and more inclusive vision for the nation’s future. No one understands this resilience, and the eternal promise of tomorrow, better than girls and young women. Unfettered by the past, they know that the only path is forward. That is why this year Alliance for Girls is inviting an unprecedented number of girl leaders (with your help) to join us for a day of creation, imagination, and movement building. On May 23rd, Alliance for Girls’ 5th Annual Conference: Together We Rise will convene more than 500 extraordinary, intergenerational leaders of the girls’ movement. Together we will develop a roadmap to equity, focusing on five key elements: Inspiration, Leadership, Collective Action, Legislation, Culture Change.
