Refund & Transfer Policy (Check refunds may take 4–6 weeks to process): Class/workshop Refund Policy: Refunds will be made up to three days prior to class start date. A $10 cancellation fee will be retained for each refund. Full refund will be given if class is cancelled due to low enrollment. Unused attendance is not transferable to another class session. Excursion Refund Policy: Refunds will be granted up to one week before the excursion only if someone on the waiting list is available to take your place. There will be a $25 cancellation fee if a replacement can be found.Class/workshop Transfer Policy: Transfers will be approved up to three days prior to the class start date. A $10 transfer fee will be retained for each class/workshop. Students must receive a verbal approval from Community Services before transfer is complete.

Parking Information • Parking permits are required Monday–Friday at Oceanside, Community Learning Center (CLC), Small

Business Development Center, and San Elijo campuses. Permits are free to Community Services registrants. Parking permits are not required on weekends. Park in any lot marked student.

• On the Oceanside Campus, pick up your permit at the Campus Police Office in Lot 1A. Hours: 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., Monday–Friday.

• On the San Elijo Campus, pick up your permit at the Campus Police Office/Parking Kiosk, located at the front entrance to the campus. Hours: 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., Monday through Friday. If the kiosk is closed, please go to the Administration Building to obtain a parking permit.

Mosaics for All LevelsMany people want to try mosaics or would like to continue making unique mosaic projects. In this class, we will do both by learning and reinforcing basic techniques while introducing more advanced techniques for those who want to go further. Sewing: Beginning DressmakingLearn the fundamentals of the art of sewing, while getting joy from wearing something you made yourself! Cut and sew four very basic (but important) pieces of your wardrobe: t-shirt, skirt, slip and pants — at a fraction of the cost of store bought apparel. Through step-by-step demonstration and hands-on labs, students will get instruction on tools and equipment, hand sewing, pattern profile, personal size vs. standard measurements, and more! Build sewing skills that you can use for years to come.Supplies: MiraCosta does not provide sewing machines. ADULT HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA PROGRAMThe Adult High School Diploma Program is designed for students 18 years of age or older who wish to complete the requirements for a high school diploma or prepare to take the GED. Those under 18 who can benefit from instruction are also allowed to enroll. Any student enrolled in a day high school (regular or continuation) must meet the following criteria in order to take classes in MiraCosta’s Adult High School Diploma Program. He/she must be a credit or CAHSEE deficient student, 17 years old or older, who has attended at least five semesters of high school. Day high school students must also present a Concurrent Enrollment Permit signed by their day high school principal, counselor, and parent. The forms are available at high school counseling offices, the Community Learning Center (CLC), MiraCosta’s Admissions Offices, and online at www.miracosta.edu/ahsdp. In order to place students in courses that best meet their needs, individual skills will be assessed. Those who need to improve their reading to be successful in courses for high school credit may take courses designed for that purpose. ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE PROGRAMThe goal of this program is to aid speakers of other languages gain fluency in English. Students learn English which helps them function effectively in family, community, work and academic settings. Conversation is emphasized at the beginning levels, but reading, writing and the structure of the language are introduced as students gain proficiency. Family Educational rights and privacy act of 1974 (FErpa)

All student records of MiraCosta College are kept in accordance with the provisions of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.

A student may request access to those campus records which personally identify the student; the student may challenge the accuracy of the record or the appropriateness of its retention in the college records. Regardless of age, student consent is needed for the release of records covered by the act to outside parties except for those agencies entitled to access under the provisions of the act (e.g., college officials; other schools; federal, educational and auditing officers; and requestors in connection with the application or receipt of financial aid). These provisions apply to records received and used after November 19, 1974.

Amendments to the act permit the college to release what is called “directory information,” provided that the student or former student has not specifically asked the college to refrain from releasing such information. Check with the Admissions and Records Office for specific directory information and notification of student rights.

If you wish directory information not to be released without your prior written consent, please indicate on the college application or send a signed request to the Admissions and Records Office, Sta. 10A, MiraCosta College, 1 Barnard Drive, Oceanside CA 92056.

Student right-to-Know rates

In compliance with the Student-Right-to-Know and Campus Security Act of 1990 (Public Law 101-542), it is the policy of the MiraCosta Community College District to make available its completion and transfer rates to all current and prospective students. Beginning in fall 2004, a cohort of all certificate-, degree-, and transfer-seeking first-time, full-time students were tracked

over a three-year period. Their completion and transfer rates are listed below. These rates do not represent the success rates of the entire student population at MiraCosta College, nor do they account for student outcomes occurring after this three-year tracking period.

Based upon the cohort defined above, 28.99 percent attained a certificate or degree or became “transfer prepared” during a three year period, from fall 2004 to spring 2007. Students who are “transfer prepared” have completed 56 transferable units with a GPA of 2.0 or better.

Based on the cohort defined above, 23.19 percent transferred to another postsecondary institution (UC, CSU, or another California community college) prior to attaining a degree, certificate, or becoming “transfer-prepared” during a five-semester period, from spring 2005 to spring 2007.

Selective Service—important notice For Male Students

Federal law requires men 18 through 25 years of age to be registered with the Selective Service System (SSS). The law applies to male citizens and immigrant aliens, but not to foreign students who hold valid student visas. Registration forms are available at any U.S. Post Office or online at www.sss.gov.

Federal Tax Credit

In accordance with federal tax credit legislation, MiraCosta College will mail a verification 1098T form at the end of January to each registered student. Information will also be reported to the IRS. If you did not provide your correct Social Security number to the Admissions and Records Office, complete a change of information form to ensure accurate reporting to the IRS. Please check with your tax preparer to determine if you are eligible to take advantage of this credit and the amount you may deduct. 1098 information may be accessed on your SURF account by selecting Finances.

Smoking and Drug use

MiraCosta College allows smoking in designated smoking areas only and imposes sanctions against the use of illegal drugs. Designated smoking areas are clearly marked with signs posted at each campus; the campus maps in this schedule show where these areas are located.
