MESSAGE TO THE SCOTT COMMUNITY What an exciting time to be in and around Scott community! Everyday there seems to be new ideas, hopes and dreams coming to fruition in our community. The positive momentum and growth we have achieved as a community has been absolutely wonderful, and through generosity and teamwork we have begun to create a community of which we can all be proud to call our home. Since I started working at the Scott Community Foundation in 2008, we have given over $3.5 million back to the Scott community through grants, scholarships and community projects. This is just the beginning, and as you will see in the annual report, Scott Community Foundation has continued to grow since we changed from a healthcare foundation in 2000. Our sound investment policies, generous donors, fantastic volunteers, and reinvestment in our community have continued to pay dividends for our growth. The Scott Community Foundation’s growth has allowed us to hire two new staff members Pamela Caldwell, who is the new Assistant Director and Alli Conine who is our Community Development Manager. The hiring of our new employees will allow the Scott Community Foundation to expand our services to the community through project support, grant writing and will allow us the flexibility to provide extensive services to the donors who create funds and estates through the Scott Community Foundation. On behalf of myself, the Scott Community Foundation Board, our staff, and our community partners, I cannot thank our donors enough for all their continued generosity to our community. I am honored that everyday I get to be a part of a team that has earned your trust, and will continue to work to meet the ever changing needs in our Scott community. Ryan Roberts, Executive Director

HISTORY OF SCOTT COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

The Scott Community Foundation history began in 1987 as the Scott County Health Care Foundation, with a purpose of advancing health care needs in the community. Over the next 13 years, the organization raised nearly $400,000 through bake sales, auctions and dances to help meet the health care needs of the community. Seeing a need to expand the Foundation's mission and support for the community, in 2000 it was decided to better meet the needs of the overall community by amending and re-establishing as a community foundation. While health care remains a significant area for Foundation activity, the new structure allowed the Foundation to expand its philanthropic interests to include education, recreation, history, the arts and other special projects. Scott Community Foundation is a special type of nonprofit organization - its whole purpose for existence is to create and build endowed funds, the proceeds from which are used in perpetuity to benefit Scott County and the surrounding area. Unlike "private foundations" such as the Gates, Carnegie, and Rockefeller Foundation, the Scott Community Foundation is a "public charity". This means the majority of the assets are received from local individuals, organizations, and businesses. Because most of the funds held are generated locally, it only makes sense that local leaders decide how those funds are managed. The volunteer Board of Trustees, comprised of Scott County Leaders, guides the Foundation's strategic direction and establishes policies for investment management, grant making, and operations. Generous community support and sensible investment management have enabled the Scott Community foundation endowment to reach nearly 7 million dollars. The proceeds from these funds will continue to be used in perpetuity to fund postsecondary education scholarships and community projects in accordance with donors' intentions. Since 2000, Scott Community Foundation has distributed more than $2 million for special Community Projects, over $200,000 in unrestricted grants, and over $200,000 in scholarships to local students.

MESSAGE FROM BOARD CHAIR

WOW, DID WE GROW THE GREEN!

Scott Community Foundation is rapidly approaching the close of an extremely rewarding year. We kicked off our Capital Campaign, “Growing the Green to Feed our Dreams”, last fall. Our SCF Capital Campaign Committee, Board Members and Staff are pleased to announce that to date we have raised $2,374,540. Now I don’t know about you all, but I believe that amount to be impressive growing for a 12-month period! We couldn’t be more pleased and proud of all of you who gave so generously and made it happen! You shared unselfishly with our entire community and that is what Scott Community Foundation is all about. The Grant Committee recently met and awarded grants totaling $30,000 to thirteen worthy organizations in our community. There were 25 applicants with requests totaling $89,350. It is our dream that a successful Capital Campaign will enable us to meet more of the growing needs in our community. We plan to continue “Growing the Green---“ which will create an opportunity for every resident, regardless of social or economic circumstance to participate in the growth of their community.

Sidney Janzen, Chair

SPECIAL PROJECTS The Scott Community Walking Trail and Veterans' Memorial are two ongoing community projects which offer meaningful and aesthetic enhancements to Scott City and surrounding areas. The Walking Trail offers access to promote healthy lifestyles and physical activities, along with safe passageways for walking, biking and other pedestrian activity. Plans are underway to complete the project in six phases.

The Veterans' Memorial, designed in 2011, is becoming a visible and beautiful community "thank you" to honor and remember all those who served in the armed forces of our country.
