Program is the following Academic course on theory and politics of the

African Diaspora Classrooms with Brazilian colleagues selected by

Criola and Uerj (first to institute affirmative action in Brazil, in 2003)

Instructors from Brazil and United States: academics, policy makers, civil society organizers

Modules on research, intellectual history, theory Emphasis on Diasporic perspectives Black Feminisms

Placement in social justice organization: Criola or Criola Partner

Classes take place in one of Rio de Janeiro’s main universities First to implement affirmative action in 2003 Located at the border between southern and

northern part of Rio Next to Maracana Stadium, Mangueira, and Vila

Translators and Portuguese classes

Classes are from 1-6p, two times per week

Simultaneous translations

Portuguese classes at Criola More intensive in the first three weeks
