Every day, in neighborhoods and cities across the Commonwealth, Community Development Corporations (CDCs) are working hard to spur affordable housing and job creation, incubate small businesses and revitalize neighborhoods. United Way was a leading advocate for the legislative passage of the program. The CITC offers individuals, corporations, and nonprofit institutions the opportunity to obtain a 50% Massachusetts state tax credit and up to a 35% federal tax deduction (depending on your tax bracket), while investing in the economic development of communities that need help most. Since the program’s inception in 2014, United Way has raised over $4 million from donors to support CDCs across the state through the Community Investment Tax Credit (CITC). The CITC program is fostering deepened community engagement efforts, and expanding community development programming in local communities.
