NPSD Extended School Care Summer Camp 2018

Ages: For children completing Kindergarten through 6th grade

Locations: Bridle Path Elementary School, 200 Bridle Path Rd., Lansdale Inglewood Elementary School, 1313 Allentown Rd., Lansdale

Dates: June 18, 2018-August 3, 2018

Times: 7 am-6 pm, Monday-Friday

Cost: $265 per session (10% sibling discount available)

Registration: Begins on March 26th from 4 pm-7:30 pm and thereafter, on Monday-Friday from 8 am-3:30 pm, at the Educational Services Center, 401 E. Hancock St., Lansdale.

Our new Starlight Summer Show Camp will take the best of our The-atre & Kids Show Camp, Theatre & Kids Performing Arts Camps and Starlight Summer Theatre Program. The Little Mermaid is a perfect summer show! Elective classes, guests, bring-in days, surprises, times - just like our regular summer camp. Dozens of featured roles, unforgettable songs, and lots of dance. Auditions for roles are the first day. T&K will provide costumes, sets, lighting and orchestrations. Air conditioned spacious stage, 500-seat auditorium, large studios and cafeteria.

Camp staffing will include returning T&K teachers and new faces serving as directors, choreographer, costumer, stage manager, as-sistants, and teachers, all with full clearances and all eager to mentor young performers.

Beginning String Orchestra (Grades 3-4) Designed for students presently in grades 3 and 4, who have at least one year of instrumental music instruction. Intermediate String Orchestra (Grades 5-7)Designed for students presently in grades 5-7 who have played for at least two full years. The Intermediate ensemble continues to strengthen students’ ensemble skills as their musicianship is taken to more advanced levels. Those who enroll should have strong note-reading skills and be able to easily play their school Orchestra music.

Suzuki Violin Classes (Grades K-2)Designed for any K-2 student who participates in their school Suzuki program and are studying Book 1. Students AND their parents will attend small-group classes twice a week for 30 minutes. Classes are held either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday between 8 am-9:30 am. The summer instructor will contact you to schedule your classes once enrollment is complete.

Summer Band Camp* (Grades 5-9) This camp features concert band rehearsals, jazz band rehearsals, sectionals, Music Technology, improvisation class, master classes, as well as other opportunities for musical growth all directed by members of the North Penn music staff. Lunch is included. The camp culminates with a concert on Friday for parents, families and community members to attend.

Odyssey of the Mind (OotM) (Grades 4-7) Odyssey of the Mind (OotM) is a creative problem solving activity. OotM teaches students to think divergently through open-ended problems in a variety of topics. Students solve problems by writing skits, sewing costumes, making props and, depending on the problem choice, building vehicles, technical elements or balsa wood structures. Camp is for students who want to find out about North Penn OotM or those who participated and want to learn more. Campers will be coached by adults and older students who will share their expertise in problem solving, improvisation, team building and construction. No experience with OotM is required. Lunch is provided. Instructor: Joanne Wiernusz

Italian Language Camp: Parliamo Italiano (Grades 3-6)Learn the Italian language and culture in a fun setting. This fast paced camp is taught by a native speaker. Hearing the language each day and being challenged to speak it during various activities makes this the best way to learn a language! Your child will be immersed in language, cultural/historical insights, sports and crafts. Daily Italian snacks will be enjoyed. Exploring Robotics Beginner (Grades 6-8)Learn real world problem-solving through hands-on approach to engineering, math and technology, while having fun with Legos®. Working in small teams, students will learn about sensors, motors and features through design challenges.

Working in small groups, students will learn to program the Sphero robots while working through design challenges. By weeks’ end, the goal is to create a pro-gram that will allow the robot to traverse an obstacle course created by the instructor. Students need to bring lunch, snacks and drinks. Players will receive well-rounded instruction in all areas of the game from members of the NPHS coaching staff and from the surrounding area. Fundamentals are tailored to specific ages and ability levels. Campers will be divided into smaller groups for productive and posi-tive coach to player ratio. All campers receive a t-shirt! Each camper should bring a baseball glove, hat, towel and bat. Cleats and spikes can be used. Catching equipment, helmets and bats will be provided if needed. Please label all equipment with the camper’s name. Water will be provided. Campers should bring snacks and drinks. Instructor: Kevin Manero

Did You Know?...North Penn’s athletic program has been recognized by Sports Illustrat-ed as one of the top athletic programs in the state. Numerous teams and individuals have received state and national recognition.

The Community Education Program has an athletic trainer on duty during all of our summer sports camps to care for your student athlete.

Lessons are held in the NPHS Pool, located at 1340 Valley Forge Road, Lansdale. Children are required to be at least five years of age and at least 45 inches in height. Former participants should bring a copy of their most re-cent progress sheet to the first class. The program is taught by experienced NP instructors. Teacher-student ratio is approximately 1:5. Participants must be members of the Community Aquatic Program. Daytime Lessons are $42.

Summer membership for the Community Aquatic Program is $10/person for NEW participants. The NPSD’s Board of School Directors believes public school facilities should be used extensively by the citizens who pay for them. Support for the CEP demonstrates that school directors and administrators are committed to community use of school facilities.

When filling out the registration form, please use the summer codes and the camp name. Confirmation will be sent via email only. Sib-ling Discounts are available ONLY when registering two campers for the same camp where applicable. Please print clearly so that your email confirmation is sent to the correct address. Register online at www.northpenncep.org.
