ONGERUP BOWLS SINGLES Ongerup Bowling Club has a new singles champion in Maurice O’Neill. A total of 11 bowlers competed in the Men’s Singles Championship on Sunday. It was a full day of bowls with play commencing at 9am, and the flood lights were on before the final game finished. There were some good tussles played out in front of an enthusiastic and sometimes vocal group of spectators, including the occasional Mexican wave orchestrated by Carl. The final was played between Maurice O’Neill and Doug McLeod, with Maurice playing some exceptional bowls and he is now the Singles Champion for 2016/17. The final for the plate was played by George Johnson and David Nield . George was too good on the day and was the winner of the 2016/17 Plate . All games were played in great team spirit. The Bowling club acknowledges every-one who contributed in any way, the players, markers, spectators and those who provided the food. It was a most enjoyable day. Best wishes to those players who are heading off to Perth this coming weekend for the annual Bowls Country Week competition. There will not be any local bowls this weekend. Jan Savage
