ChAARI Cheshire County Addiction Assistance Recovery Initiative

What is ChAARI?
What is recovery and how does
it work?
What is a recovery coach?
The Cheshire County Addiction Assistance
Recovery Initiative (ChAARI) is a compo-
nent of the Coordinated Access Point Pro-
gram (CAPP), a pilot program created to
address the current opioid epidemic. The
initiative provides a single point of contact
for individuals who want to begin treat-
ment to recover from their addiction.
ChAARI will focus on three key compo-
nents to save lives:
Prevention and education
Enforcement
Treatment and recovery
The ChAARI helpline is monitored 24
hours a day, 7 days a week. After a call is
received, a recovery coach will be dis-
patched to the Cheshire Medical Center
emergency room. The participant will
meet with their recovery coach to begin to
create a recovery program that will work
for their individual needs. The ChAARI
program works with all emergency re-
sponders, ER staff, and fire departments
throughout Cheshire County.
ChAARI
Recovery is a process, a journey. It is the per-
sonal journey of the person who makes the
decision to stop their addictive behavior.
Once the initial decision is made, the individual
works with their recovery coach to lay out a
plan that will help them make changes neces-
sary for recovery. It requires personal com-
mitment and action. The recovery coach is
there to assist with the process as the individu-
al works to reduce the harmful affects caused
by their addictive behaviors.
Long-term recovery is the goal. As the initial
goals are reached, the recovering individual will
establish new goals to help them continue on
the path of personal growth.
RECOVERY RECOVERY COACH
The main purpose of a recovery coach is to
assist the recovering individual. This person
is a partner and guide. He or she asks ques-
tions to help the recovering individual think
about and define their goals. The recovery
coach also helps the person in recovery to
navigate obstacles and challenges as they
work toward their goals.

Is a recovery coach necessary if the
person in recovery already has a
counselor?
Yes. Each support person plays a dif-
ferent role. A counselor provides
professional support in a clinical set-
ting. A recovery coach offers sup-
port based on extensive training to
encourage people in personal growth
areas. They will ask tough questions
to help those in recovery make deci-
sions on how to improve their lives
and explore their feelings. They will
also provide encouragement along
the way and celebrate successes. “We are so pleased to be able to expand our
mission as advocates of those in need by part-
nering with police and fire officials in Cheshire
County to create an addiction recovery pro-
gram. Together we can help our most vulnera-
ble populations work toward a new, healthier
life.”

A recovery coach can also help connect the
recovering individual to services that might
help with other difficulties, such as housing,
unemployment, and childcare.
Southwestern Community Services offers a
variety of services. Please call the main of-
fice at 352-7512 for more information about
programs SCS offers or to request an Agency
brochure or program specific brochures.
