Community Service
The Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine participates in several community
athletic and health events throughout the year. At these events, a soft tissue training
session is provided to the public free of charge. The sessions are staffed by TCOM
students of all class rankings and precepted by department faculty. The average number of
tables at each event is 10. In the 2013-2014 year the department participated in the
following local events:
October 12, 2013 - DO Dash in Fort Worth. SAAO staffed a booth with Dr. Clay Walsh
precepting. One GTA and 18 student volunteers participated. Fifty-nine runners were
treated pre and post-race.
February 21-22, 2014 - Cowtown Marathon in Fort Worth. Precepted by Drs. Gamber,
Walsh, Seals, Crow, 3 residents, 1 GTA, 2 staff members and 27 student volunteers. Two
hundred one runners were treated pre and post-race.

April 26, 2013 - African-American Wellness Fair in South Fort Worth. Precepted by Dr.
Kendi Hensel with one resident and four student volunteers in attendance. Nineteen
attendees were treated from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
May 19, 2014 - MS Bike 150 was held at Texas Motor Speedway. A soft tissue training
session was held in conjunction with the IM Department. SAAO students staffed the
event, precepted by Dr. Aaron Boone with residents Liganor, Picciotti, and 11 student
volunteers in attendance. Thirty eight bicyclists were treated from 10:30 am to 4:00 pm.
May 19, 2014 – MS Bike 150 Team
August 2, 2014 Hispanic Wellness Fair at the Will Rogers Auditorium in Fort Worth.
Precepted by Drs. Russell Gamber and Kendi Hensel, assisted by residents Liganor, and
Watters, 1 staff member, and 16 student volunteers. Ninety-six attendees were treated.
