The new filtration unit – more efficient and more practical

Increasing requirements regarding the quality of pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, food, and beverage enforce more and stricter production-process and product-release controls. At the same time, the consumers’ demands for longer non-perishable food require more extensive testing of the sterility of the products and the used raw materials respectively. Nonetheless, the increased effort in the microbiological control mustn’t make for excessively higher costs. Therefore, the work flow has to be optimised and made more and more efficient – without jeopardising the high level of product safety.

The new Hahnemühle pumping system combined with the easy-to-handle monitors is perfectly suited for membrane filtration in the microbiology. Usually, three components were necessary for the simultaneous filtration of several samples, up to today: a suction bar with three positions, a vacuum bottle and a vacuum pump with silencer and fine-adjustment control. Thanks to the new 3-in-1 unit by Hahnemühle, all these components aren’t necessary any more. The super-flat housing features three positions for filter units and the powerful low-noise pump.

Filtrate three samples simultaneously with just one complete filtration unitThe previous set-up with suction bar/fluid trap and vacuum pump with silencer has been made redundant. This new membrane pump for fluids creates a high-level vacuum and transfers the fluids from the sample through the pump right to a drainage tube and to the sink or a waste container. And does so for three samples simultaneously!

The powerful pump is the reliable coreThe newly designed pump for fluids was specially developed for this filter unit. It’s extremely rugged and promises a reliab-le and long-term work performance of more than 5,000 hours.

Easiest handling with a single on/off buttonThe low-noise pump starts to work right after having been switched on and just seconds afterwards, it produces the maximum vacuum for all the three positions. After the pump has been switched off, the filter holders simply can be taken off – without dangerous blow back or the risk of a sample contamination. For the filtration of less than three samples, the unused positions can be closed to provide the full pump performance for the mounted filter holders.

Quick cleaning of both the interior and the outsideThe housing is waterproof and safe against the ingress of accidentally spilled fluids. It easily can be cleaned with the usual laboratory-cleaning agents. Meanwhile, the approved disinfectants isopropanol and hydrogen peroxide solution can be used for cleaning the interior.

The housing is made of aluminium. Pump head, membrane and valves are made of PP and EPDM, the tubes of Norprene and the receiving nozzles as well as the pipes from stainless steel (CrNiMo). Due to the resistance of the used materials against the approved disinfectants isopropanol and hydrogen peroxide solution, cleaning and disinfecting the outside and the interior of the pump is easy.

The new filtration unit fits perfectly to the Hahnemühle Monitors

For the filtration, the Hahnemühle monitors are plugged onto the suction nozzles, with both components perfectly matching each other. The fluids to be monitored are poured into the monitors and the pump is switched on. By dint of the high-quality liquid pump that is working as quiet as a whisper, the sample is sucked through the filter and the filtrate is transferred right to the sink or the waste container. Within 20 to 30 seconds, all the three samples are filtrated (0.45 µm membranes with water) and the pump can be switched off. A smooth pressure compensation prevents a blow back to the filtration membrane.

Accessory: Monitors

We offer the sterile monitors with white and black cellulose-nitrate membranes. The distance between the clearly visible grid lines amounts to 3.1mm. Following the filtration, the monitors quickly and easily can be turned into petri dishes. Via adapters, these monitors easily also can be connected to multi-system:

For the sterile filtration of the necessary culture media, we provide acetyl cellulose and polyethersulphone membranes or syringe filters:
