The largest event in the Bloomberg Calendar, the ‘Summer Picnic’, was a corporate event held annually during the summer in Sydney, Singapore, Hong Kong and Tokyo for Bloomberg’s staff and families. Part of the core creative team, I saw the creative direction from con-cept to execution over a 3-year period between 2011 and 2013. The Summer Picnic provided a uniquely Bloomberg experience that celebrates the brands inclusive and diverse culture, promoting inter-personal connections and a sense of community amongst em-ployee’s, their families and friends. As such, each event focused on interactive, varied and memorable experiences with all the Summer Parties sharing a common creative concept, which was adapted for regional and local customs. I was tasked to develop a local creative interpretation of on the

central creative theme provide design development and helping to coordinate production management, transportation and logistical support across all 4 Cities.

The Summer Picnic’s had a serious function within the Bloomberg community namely:• BuildaffinitywithandcommunitywithintheBloombergBrand• Continue to be seen as an leader in CSR• Enhance ‘employer of choice’ credentials• Strengthen the belief each employee is part of a varied and vi-

brant community• Build inter-personal connections• Reward staff for their hard work

• Strengthen belief in corporate CSR programs and brand values

The events however were designed as colourful and fun, with ac-tivities designed to appeal to different age and family groups. The theming was extended to the food variety and presentation, as well aswayfinding,signage,propsandtents.Thepicnicswerezonedintoculturalareas,reflectedintheactivi-ties, styling and dressing of each area. Social responsibility was an important part of these events. These were communicated through BGREEN initiatives (including recycling and sustainable practices), BWELL initiatives (such as sporting activities and labelling of healthy food choices), and inclusion and promotion of philanthropy partners. An activity program was developed for both daytime and nightime,

with a range of entertainment on offer.

For SP11 a set of shared experiences were created across all cities. The zones were approached through identifying elements common to all four picnics based around the cities in which Bloomberg was based, which included New York, London, Brazil, India. In addition LocalactivitiesincludedaGlobalfoodfiesta,Mainstageanddanceparty. Integrated into these zones were a wide range of activities, including sports, crafts, dance, live performance, chill-out spots and children’s areas. The main zones and the individual activities were viewed as a uni-fied,integratedapproachwhichtogetherprovidedarichandinterac-tive experience for all our guests.
