Helvar develops, manufactures and markets ballasts and lighting control solutions and services.

Our customers and our key partners are luminaire manufacturers, distributors, electrical and lighting designers and electrical contractors.

The result of this co-operation offers high quality, energy saving commercial lighting systems and architectural lighting solutions for indoor and outdoor use.

The Helvar Story

Helvar was founded in 1921 as a trade company to import oil fromWarsaw (Varsova) to Helsinki. In the early years the radio production and later on televisions became the most important lines of business.

During the late 40’s when the fluorescent lamps had been introduced to the lighting world, Helvar started the production of magnetic ballasts.

In the early 80’s Helvar was among the first few to bring to the market both standard and controllable electronic ballasts.

In 1966 Helvar had already started the production of dimmers. This was the starting point to a row of new and innovative lighting control solutions supported by acquisitions.

The high level of automation and continuous development have made our Karkkila factory one of the most effective in the world, one of the biggest in Europe and the only one in Scandinavia.

Today Helvar is the second biggest producer of magnetic ballasts in Europe and a very well-established lighting electronics supplier.
