Ashpave C O M P A N Y P R O F I L E

Overview

Ashpave is a family owned Australian company with head office and workshops in Pambula on the South Coast of NSW. We have been serving the road surfacing industry since 1970. With this long trading history we have attained an excellent reputation for road surfacing professionalism, quality and reliable service to Roads and Maritime service, Local Government, Developers, Businesses and Private Property Owners.

Whilst Ashpave could be classed as a small operator we have access to resources that allow us to undertake any size of works. Our experience and our industry partnerships mean we are easily able to adjust to technological changes and to scale our operation to accommodate a client's individual needs.

We are driven by innovation, the pursuit of better work methods, technological advancement and better environmental outcomes. Our experience, technology and application methods mean that we are lean, responsive and able to meet the quality, time and price demands of our customers for any project size.

Our commitment to the environment means that we have specifically developed techniques for the application of bitumen emulsion in preference to hot cutback products. Our techniques ensure that when emulsion is applied equal or better quality outcomes are achieved. Recognising some customer’s needs, through our partnerships we are able to apply hot cutback bitumen on large scale projects.

Ashpave’s services include spray sealing, asphalt hot mix sealing, milling, maintenance and repair of roads, coloured surface coatings, line marking, road surfacing project management and advice on surfacing projects.

We operate in Southern New South Wales and ACT.

Vehicles and equipment

Ashpave’s modern vehicles and equipment are regularly serviced, and maintained at our workshop. By conducting our own research and development, we are able to build more efficient and effective equipment. We travel internationally to observe global trends and to search for innovation. Our integrated water, sweep and roll truck and one pass chip sealer are examples of the positive outcomes from these efforts.

Fully insured

All necessary insurances, licenses and certifications are in place for local government and civil construction work sites.

Quality commitment

At Ashpave we use an integrated management system to control quality and will shortly be certified to the Civil Contractors Code. Using quality management principles we conduct business using a series of specifically developed process guidelines. A periodic review ensures that our processes stay up to date and relevant to the conduct of a modern road surfacing business. Using quality processes also ensures that the correct materials are supplied and the application of those materials meets the standard specified for the job.

Work Health & Safety

Protection and safety of the workforce and the public have a high priority. Ashpave assign resources to make sure safe working procedures, safe handling of material and personal protective equipment are used. We use the CCF-IMS management system and work to the civil construction federation code for business operations across Quality, Environment and WHS.

Environmental commitment

Using our Chip Sealing techniques we are actively reducing our environmental impact compared to traditional methods. We use less energy and emit far less CO2 and volatiles than other methods.

Using Chip Sealing for sealing and repair of roads

One Pass concept

The one pass system is the single most important innovation to hit the bitumen sealing industry since its inception. Designed and built in France, Ashpave's Chip Sealer is a single operator vehicle which sprays the binder and spreads the aggregate in one forward pass. Application rates are controlled by an on board computer and set into a calibrated system at the commencement of each job.

One step in situ emulsion surfacing can use a variety of high bitumen content and latex or polymer modified emulsions, applied at 85°C. The aggregate is applied to the binder in the same pass within 1 second of spraying. This eliminates hazards to pedestrians or vehicles coming in contact with uncovered binder. The one pass technique also means higher than previously possible spray rates are feasible. This leads to superior results using emulsion. Case studies going back over 8 years demonstrate the effectiveness of our system.

With modern emulsions it is possible to work in wider range of climatic conditions, extending the sealing season by several months. It is also ideal for cool climate applications.

Computerised control

Computer controlled application ensures consistent quality and data recording. A computer road visualization system and ground following radar gives the machine the ability to accurately place seal on a road in all manner of sizes from 3.1 meters down to 200mm. With the vehicle’s ability to spray and spread in this range, it is possible to cover all manner of configurations on a road lane on the run; tapers, strips, wheel tracks.

It allows the flexibility to pinpoint and treat sections of pavement rather than re-sealing entire sections, and stretches repair and re-seal budgets covering a larger slice of a road network.

Complete chip sealing operating system

To complement our one pass machine we have designed and built a specialised emulsion storage tanker and fast load conveyor system. This enables a quick re-load of the chip sealer's aggregate bin and emulsion tank to maximize daily production.

Typically 2 bins of aggregate are required to 1 chip sealer emulsion tank (3,500 litres). Depending on the spray and spread rates required the aggregate bin will carry sufficient material to cover for example: 7mm Seal at 1.8 litres/m² of binder and 4.5 litres/m² of aggregate approximately 1,400m² before re- loading the aggregate bin. Under ideal conditions this run could be achieved in as little as 7 minutes.

The emulsion storage tanker can be positioned in a readily accessible location and the fast load conveyor system can be on site to allow an aggregate reload from a Tip Truck, which takes less than 5 minutes. Binder loading takes approximately 10 minutes direct from the Emulsion Storage Tanker.

Better for the environment

High bitumen content polymer modified emulsion is more environmentally friendly than other alternatives.

• Less petroleum product (no cutters or adhesion agents required) • Reduced energy consumption through less heavy vehicles and efficient application • Significantly less “Greenhouse Emissions” with lower heating requirements • Lower emissions of volatiles and zero chance of cutter spills, bleeding or runoff.

Get more out of the road sealing budget with superior results and efficiency.

Far safer working environment

• No uncovered binder • Substantially less heating required (spraying temperature of 85°C versus 180°C) • Less overhead hazard risk • Less traffic hazard risk. No reversing spreader trucks. No operator stress. • Greatly reduced risk of burns, explosion and inhalation of harmful fumes • Low impact as the process allows for a mobile work site with traffic control measures similar to line

marking.

Better for public safety

• The aggregate is applied to the binder within 1 second which eliminates hazards to pedestrians or vehicles coming into contact with uncovered binder

• Safer way of achieving requirements with less risk of the general public being exposed to high temperature bitumen products and their associated fumes

• Far less risk of vehicles or pedestrians being exposed to reversing tip trucks spreading aggregate • Far less traffic disruption • Minimal residual odour following works completion

More efficient, safer and environmentally sound.

Maintenance and repair We maintain and repair existing surfaces, supply and install speed humps and wheel stops, repair pot holes and road pavements. We use Ceramic Infrared Heaters for repairs of utility cuts and patches, tyre dents, surface cracking, ugly joints and low spots. Using the Asphalt Reheat System allows us to easily repair Hot Mix Asphalt in a fast and safe manner using little additional material and recycling the existing surface.

Mill and Fill

We own and maintain one of the largest skid steer machines available in Australia. At 110hp we are able to easily operate a boom mounted 600mm mill. This combination allows for the fast removal of significant amounts of damaged surface accurately in preparation for AC fill. We use this machine in the repair of car parks, roads and road intersections. It’s relatively compact size coupled with the versatility of a skid steer means that the equipment can be quickly mobilised to any worksite.
