Horizon is an insurance broking firm with world-wide capabilities
committed to being a broker of first choice for clients who demand the best
in quality service delivery and professional expertise. We are dedicated
insurance professionals who are in law an agent of our clients. We are
required by law to act in the best interest of our clients. Primarily, we help
our clients to identify their insurance needs, and buy the needed insurance
on behalf of our clients on the most favourable terms and price. We are also
responsible for the processing and negotiation of claims under the
insurances we buy for our clients.
Who Are We As Insurance Brokers ?
4
Because Horizon is the very best at rendering quality services to our clients,
ranking among the top five insurance brokers in Ghana. At Horizon we
would enable YOU to concentrate on your core business whilst we
leverage our professional expertise and knowledge of the insurance market
to ensure that the right decisions are made in purchasing appropriate
insurance security on the most favourable terms and at the most
competitive price.
Why Should You Engage Horizon?
5
The answer is NO. On the contrary the intervention of Horizon can help in
reducing cost, and ensuring value for money. For the traditional services of an
insurance broker, the remuneration of the broker is by way of a commission
from the insurance company in accordance with world-wide practice and
tradition. The premium rate invariably includes an acquisition and servicing
cost which the insured pays to an insurance company regardless of whether
the insured goes directly to the insurance company or not. It is this acquisition
and servicing cost that the insurance company passes to the broker by way of
a commission. Therefore, the insurance broking services of Horizon would be
entirely at no cost to the client.
Would Horizon Add To Client’s Insurance Cost?

The core business of the CH Group is the bulk importation, storage and distribution of petroleum products from its own tank farm at Tema and at various rented storage depots at various locations across Ghana. Because of the volatile nature of petroleum products the
CH Group faces a high probability of catastrophic losses to property and third party liabilities. The company also faces a high risk of losses from infidelity of employees due to the easy marketability of petroleum products and the fact that the company operates at several locations across the length and breath of Ghana. Due to the high capital cost in the petroleum sector there was the need for delicate financial engineering for the company to carry out its business, necessitating the involvement of third parties from the financial sector whose interest impact on the insurance arrangement. There was therefore the need to resolve the inherent conflict between the need for adequate transfer of risk through insurance and the need to reduce insurance premium cost by risk retention. This calls for efficient estimation of probable maximum loss (PML), and probable frequency of losses, and determination of reasonable deductibles in an effort to provide adequate insurance protection at a reasonable premium cost. In addition there was the need to adopt holistic risk management and loss prevention measures to ensure the survival of the company by putting in place disaster management plans. Services Provided by Horizon include Risk survey, identification and evaluation, structuring and placement of insurance programme with both local insurers and Lloyds of London. The policies place include the following;
1. Assets All Risks and Business interruption 2. Employers liability/ Workmen Compensation/ Group Life 3. Public Liability and General Pollution Cover 4. Motor Vehicle Fleet Insurance 5.Political Violence Insurance- Property Damage and Business interruption

An importer and distributor of Ethanol (Alcohol), MIDLAND INTERNATIONAL tank farm located near the Tema Harbour serves as both a bonded warehouse and distribution centre.
Horizon brokered Insurance documentation needed by the Customs Excise and Preventive Services for the facility which store up to $16 million worth of alcohol. The challenge Horizon had to deal with was how to mediate the huge premium the Insurance Companies were asking for, due to the volatile nature of ethanol, and the clients’ inability to pay beyond a point due to the narrow margins they make on selling their product. Horizon successfully facilitated the settlement of claim to the tune of $1,720,000, when fire gutted the company’s premises in September 2010 under very difficult circumstances, including resorting to arbitration to extract adequate compensation for our client.
