Machinefabriek Luyt B.V. is a Luyt Group company.

Machinefabriek Luyt B.V. has been a leading winch building company for more than 50 years. Machinefabriek Luyt provides a wide range of high quality innovative winches for applications in the offshore industry, dredging industry, oil & gas industry and fishing industry. Machinefabriek Luyt is an independent company which has developed into a reliable international partner for winches worldwide.

Luyt designs winches in 3-D computer programs and produces and services high end winches for:• Anchor Handling & Towing winches for all maritime applications.• Anchor mooring winches• Winch systems for fishing vessels

All Luyt winches are custom made built for the applications meeting the demands and requirements of our customers. A combination of comprehensive knowledge, competence, experience with compact structures and a specialised approach enables Machinefabriek Luyt to customise its products to client specifications. These qualities are the key to our success and that is how we want to keep it.

The origin of a successful companyMachinefabriek Luyt B.V. was founded in 1960 by Jan Luijt. Due to the long delivery time of new build winches Jan Luijt started to produce winches himself. This became a success. Customers of all branches found their way to Luyt for winch systems for all sorts of applications.

The company went to a considerable growth which led to the introduction of the Luyt Group in 2003. The Luyt Group provides a full range of maritime products and Machinefabriek Luyt B.V. is now still one of its key members.

In the early years the first winches were build for the fishing industry. Due to the large demand for winches worldwide Machinefabriek Luyt began to design, develop and produce

winches for other industries. During the decades Machinefabriek Luyt designed and produced more than 750 winches for clients throughout the world.

Jan Luijt has led the organisation until 1998. Today the company is still an independent family owned company now led by his son in law Gert Jan Wiegman.

MissionSince we started in 1960 we always have put the demands, requirements and wishes of our customers in the centre of our designs and products. We develop our winch systems custom made. We also do winch projects “turn key”. This means we completely design, build, install and commission winch systems including the drive systems and control systems.

We see it as our mission to design and build winch systems following to the requirements of our customers:

Knowledge and experienceSince 1960 we have designed and improved all new technical features into the building of our winches. With our 3-D designprograms we can offer a realistic view of the winch systems and if necessary place them into a drawing of the vessel or other working equipment. We owe our good reputation also to our staff’s extensive knowledge, expertise and many years of experience. The result is a first-class product.

Safety and protectionBoth safety and protection of people are important and therefore major key design requirements in our process. When designing the winch we make sure that we have taken all pos-sible safety percussions and dangerous working circumstances into account and design the winch system as safely as possible for the application. All rotating parts will be fitted with protection covers and the winches are provided with emergency stops and other safety systems. As noise can be very damaging and tire-

some we also focus on winch systems to be designed as silently as possible.

Durability and environmentDurability plays a great role in the design and production of our winches. Luyt ’s strategy regarding durability is two folded. On the one hand we design and produce winch systems in a way that they will last long. We use durable materials and parts and design winches so that wearing is minimized. Winches oper-ating more than 40 years is not exceptional. On the other hand “sustainability” has become more and more important. Thanks to new developments our designers are able to implement new demands regarding the usage of special materials and parts, for instance with respect to drive systems, brake lining, fuel reduction and usage of oil management. Also after a long working life, our winches are often overhauled and gain a second life. This means saving on energy and materials which helps our environment (near cradle to cradle).

GuaranteeLuyt has a long term strategy regarding guarantee. As winches are important equipment for our clients projects, we guarantee pulling force, robustness, silent running and reliability. We also provide guarantee regarding service and maintenance as well as the supply of maintenance – and spare parts. We are able to do a factory test or field test at which our clients can witness the functionality and pulling and holding specifications. As all winches are client based custom made build we guarantee that all necessary tests and issues will be solved by Luyt.

What we doDesign and Engineering

Luyt has its own engineering department. This department has recently developed a series of winches based on rules and regulations of well known clas-sification bureaus, ISO standards and years of Luyt experience. Our design tools are care-fully selected and give us the insurance that our winches are designed for long-live and are trouble free.

Installing & Commissioning Our mechanical engineers install our winches world-wide. They can also test the winches on location.

Maintenance | Modification | Repair & ServiceOur service engineers travel word-wide to repair or service our winches.

OverhaulOur winches have al long life-time. After a thoroughly overhaul our winches are ready for a second life-time.

New BuildingWe have built in fifty years more than 750 winches. All our winches will be designed, built and tested in our factory in Den Oever. If required our tests will be witnessed by classification bureaus ( LRS, GL, DNV, ABS or others…)
