O’briens is a family run Building business based in Bridport, Dorset, which was established in 2003 by Daniel O’Brien. During this time The Company has earned an excellent reputation and frequently carries out large projects for private clients, Local Authorities, Housing Associations, construction companies and works with major insurance companies in providing a one stop building service with an emergency and reinstatement service, as well as smaller jobs for private individuals. Our projects range in value up to 1.2m and we have a superb track record in completing projects on time and within budget we have gained a reputation for high quality workmanship. Covering Dorchester, Weymouth, Lyme Regis, Yeovil and all surrounding areas,

Clients can be assured that the emphasis is on speed, we can co-ordinate various trades to complete small jobs quickly and cost effectively. All it takes is a simple phone call and we can have a surveyor inspect the work required to produce a free, formal estimate without obligation.

We will advise on timescales and liaise with you on any access or working time restrictions, keeping you informed and up to date with progress as the works proceed. Emergencies can be handled very quickly by a phone call to our Bridport office. The nature of the work can be ascertained at this point and the relative trade operatives dispatched.

Our operatives undertake regular technical and Health & Safety training and offer a courteous and professional service to their customers.

Our vehicles are fitted with tracking systems so all time on site is tracked and recorded.

Customers can also feel safe in the knowledge that the Company is approved by the Lead Sheet Association (LSA), who is the foremost independent technical authority on the design, specifi cation and use of rolled lead in the construction industry, with vetting regularly carried out by the LSA.

High Performance Felt System

O’Briens are accredited as a NordBitumi waterproofi ng solutions contractor for torch on Bituminous felt roofi ng off ers a cost eff ective solution to fl ats roofs.

AXE AND PARRET SCHOOL

Traditionally these comprised 2 or 3 layers of bitumen felt laid in oxidised bitumen with solar refl ective chippings to protect the surface from UV radiation. These roofs have a limited life expectancy. In order to overcome these defi ciencies polyester reinforced felts with polymer modifi ed bitumen and mineral fi nishes were developed which off ered longer life expectancy and overall performance. These products were further developed to allow torch on application.

Projects are undertaken using specialised systems from NordBitumi waterproofi ng and other leading manufacturers. Vapour control layers, uniform thickness and cut to falls insulation can be specifi ed according to site requirements. Systems are available with a choice of 10, 15 and 20 years guarantees.

Obrien Roofi ng Limited undertake all aspects of felt roofi ng including new build of refurbishment projects working for main contractors, local authorities, commercial and domestic clients. As part of our service we can supply and install roofl ights within the roof system to provide an eff ective and economical way of introducing natural light and ventilation to rooms without access to external walls.

Harnessing solar energy is one of the most attractive and sustainable means of generating zero carbon, renewable energy for use in buildings.

Our second generation Photovoltaic (PV) Tile systems have been designed for performance, ease of installation and to blend in with the built environment to minimise the aesthetic impact on the building. They thus off er signifi cant benefi ts in all three areas over “above the roof” panel systems, where poor installation can compromise the roof structure.

A pitched roof is the ideal surface for solar energy collection for heat and electricity generation since the radiation from the sun is greater than on a fl at surface. Even in the UK, and even in winter, our PV systems continue to harness solar energy. Of course, the brighter the sunlight, the higher the output, but our PV systems also work well in normal daylight and even cloudy conditions.

Our solar energy systems are a technical tour de force: innovative and very reliable. But not only that: their aesthetic appeal is just as important. The systems are fully integrated and blend into the roof surface beautifully. They can also be expanded easily at a later date giving you maximum fl exibility and minimum inconvenience.

Green Roofs

SEDUM ROOF

The word Green Roof has come to describe a roof which is green in the economic sense. In other words it is energy effi cient or sustainable. It has many diff erent names such as a living roof, biodiverse roof, Sedum roof, brown roof, eco-roof, grass roof, turfed roof, etc. Basically, it is a living roof which is placed on a building instead of a conventional roof. There are various components that are necessary plus the main structure of the building must be tested before any attempt to put a green roof onto a large expanse of roof.

There are numerous benefi ts surrounding green roofs including, helping to control water in areas of fl ash fl ooding as it absorbs more water slowing the release of rainwater. It can be used as a fi ltration method capturing the run off water and using it for other uses such as brown water (fl ushing toilets etc). Experiments have shown that a green roof such as a Sedum Roof can help both with insulation during colder months and a cooling eff ect during hotter times. One of the main and most popular reasons for having a green roof, whether it be on your house, shed or garage is that it will increase the biodiversity of wildlife including insects and birdlife. This makes it so much more attractive to look at than a conventional tiled roof.

A green roof will also fi lter pollutants in the atmosphere especially carbon dioxide, lowering the carbon footprint but also helping lower disease rates such as asthma. If all the roofs in London had green roofs the air would be far cleaner. Financially it can increase the roof life considerably and nowadays goes a long way to even increase the real estate value of your property. There are sometimes local tax incentives which may help but certainly in the Uk the local councils are very keen to promote the use of Green Roofs and sometimes will not pass building permission until a percentage of the roof is a green roof.

Obriens decorating team has a wealth of experience in commercial and domestic painting. Whether it’s a commercial contract or a private home, our time-served decorators pay great attention to detail.

For exterior works, we apply masonry coatings to render or roughcast, paint or stain to windows, doors, fascias, soffits, fences, railings, gates, gutters, drain pipes and garages.When High Level access is needed, we can depend on our in house cherrypicker

Interior works include staining or varnishing to woodwork, emulsion to ceilings and walls and wallpapering. We also offer coving, ornate features, dry lining, and plastering

One of our great strengths is our ability to cause minimal disruption to the lives of residents while working in occupied properties.

We have knowledgeable teams who understand that they are working within someone’s home and are respectful, tidy and responsible. Our IPAF licensed operators have a wealth of experience in a wide range of access jobs and are fully trained to the current health and safety regulations.

For maximum versatility and manoeuvrability, our truck mounted access platform is well suited to a range of tasks, especially when working on construction sites or drive ways where space and access can be restricted or when you need to go up and over nearby obstacles. Our Platform is also ideal for jobs in highly congested areas, for example supermarket car parks or even large warehouses

Additional Information

With a 360 Degree Boom-Rotation and 200kg Load Capacity our access platform will fit in a gap as narrow as 2.1m wide. Coupled with a Working Height of 20m and an Outreach Limit of 9m our access platform is a very versatile Cherry Picker.

Our cherry-picker come with an IPAF licensed operative who can carry out works or will work alongside the hirer, to safely operate the equipment in addition to assisting works whilst on-site.

O’Brien Sheet Lead Fabrications is a department of O’Brien Roofing and Leadwork Limited, specialising in lead working, welding and bossing. We can supply ready to fit sheet lead to chimney weatherings and DPC to suit any size (subject to recommendations) chimney, lead slates to any size pipe passing through a roof, boxed catch pit outlets, flat roof outlets, roof vents which can be connected to with a flexible duct and all dormer flashings etc.

We stock a large range of products to suit standard details. We have gained a lot of experience in the roofing industry with hands on experience. We can understand our customers needs. Our customer base includes roofing contractors, builders, thatching contractors and plumbers.

All we require from our customer is a sketch or photograph with dimensions, pitch etc and we will quote, make up and deliver in good time. Our aim is to save customers labour costs on site associated with forming and welding sheet lead.
