MARK REEs

Mark is a chartered surveyor who is a Member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and also has a BSc in Quantity Surveying. Mark has over 30 years experience in the Construction Industry where he has gained considerable experience in Surveying, Property Development, Development Management, Project Management and Construction Management in the UK.

He has extensive experience of dealing with all aspects of construction including but not limited to cost control, development appraisal, development forecasting and monitoring as wells as various construction procurement methods which he has used on projects to ensure projects are completed for agreed budgets with a view to fully maximising end value.

Mark has worked on various sized developments from commercial office buildings, hotels, and high end residential schemes funded by, public bodies, financial institutions, private investor(s) and sometimes on a joint- venture basis.

DAvID MELLIsh

David has worked in the property and construction industry for in excess of 30 years gaining a wealth of experience in all forms of property development and construction. His initial training took place with one of the UK’s largest and reputable construction companies of the time, Higgs and Hill.

He gained his qualifications including membership of the Chartered Institute of Building, during a lengthy day release programme at college, whilst maintaining a full time working position as a trainee Project Manager on a number of prestigious central London projects. At the age of 21 David’s ambitious nature led him to make the break and form his own Project Management Consultancy and maintained this status until forming an alliance with Mark Rees in May 2000.

David has extensive experience of dealing with all aspects of construction specialising in Management of complex projects, including initial planning, programming, cost effective procurement and final delivery to agreed timescales and budgets. David has worked on various projects, including commercial office buildings, hotels, high end residential schemes, large city centre retail projects and large out of town residential developments. David is currently co-owner and director of Rees Mellish Ltd, a Construction Management, Project & Development Management company. PhILIP FARNhAM

In 1999 Philip joined Willis as a property insurance broker. After four years he transferred his skill set to Carrot Ltd, a niche residential developer based in Clerkenwell, where his responsibilities included; — Identifying and acquiring new development opportunities— Securing the necessary equity and pre-sales (if required) for all new ventures— Project Management during the pre-design phase and construction period. After six years at Carrot, Philip left to join Stirling Ackroyd, a City fringe agency, to work in their investment and development team. His key disciplines were land and development sales for consented and unconditional opportunities and investment deals comprising of block purchases of existing stock and pre-built units.

In late 2010 Philip left to work for himself and was contracted on a consultancy basis by companies and individuals helping to structure property deals; sourcing sites, securing equity, agreeing pre-sales, design input to maximise GDV, senior debt, introduction of design and construction team members. Philip also holds a post-graduate diploma in ‘Planning & Development’

thE GREENWICh hOtEL

Conversion, refurbishment and new build extension by Rees Mellish Ltd of an existing Police section house in Greenwich into a design led luxury 10 storey, 4* boutique style hotel for the owner, Lady Delves Broughton. Dating back to the 1930’s this building was originally commissioned by the Metropolitan Police to be a section house. In 1946 the building was awarded a RIBA Bronze award for design. The building has undergone a major transformation with two new floors in a contemporary glass structure at roof level giving Greenwich its first Boutique Styled Hotel. The original training shooting range has been converted into a design lead restaurant.

All of the 145 rooms have been designed, incorporating style and comfort providing some 40 different styled room types. The attention to detail coupled with the quality of the construction is second to none with many of the original features being restored and retained.

Responsible for sourcing and acquiring the airspace rights on a ‘subject to planning’ contract, above a residential development completed in 1996. The current building consists of 34 apartments.

Negotiations have been completed with the leaseholders to modernise and refurbish the communal area on each floor, including a new reception and entrance.

Planning has been achieved for the development of an additional floor, creating two new build penthouses.

A Landmark Grade 2 listed warehouse just off Bishopsgate, built in 1771 by the East India Company and known originally as the ‘Old Bengal Warehouse’, denoting it’s original use to store exotic imports from India and the Orient.

The building was acquired by Carrot in 2007 and converted into 14 large luxury apartments.

The ground floor was delivered back to the Freeholder in shell form. The scheme won ‘Best Conversion’ in the Evening Standard Property awards 2011

Acquired by Carrot in 2006 with planning consent, (subsequently enhanced), the site formed part of the original Allied Domacq Brewery Site,

The new build project comprised several buildings totalling c:120,000 ft2 of mixed use including 45 private apartments, affordable housing, a supermarket, and offices. The supermarket was pre-let (Waitrose), and the private and affordable residential was pre-sold, effectively de-risking the scheme day one.

Acquired by Carrot in 2005 through fierce competition, including Arsenal FC, L̀Ecole is a former Victorian college building situated on the fringe of Islington, forming part of the ‘Arsenal Regeneration Zone’, directly opposite Emirates Stadium.

The existing building was converted to provide 21 loft-style duplexes and three penthouse apartments with double height ceilings, including private terraces on the third floor. Four new buildings were constructed in the grounds, surround the communal gardens to provide the remaining private apartments and the affordable. In total, the scheme provides 83 apartments in three buildings, with 51 private units, 31 affordable apartments, one live/work unit and 15 underground parking bays.

The Former ‘Merchant Venturers College’ is one of Bristol’s iconic buildings situated in the heart of the city overlooking College Green.

Acquired by Carrot in 2004 with planning consent the scheme involved the conversion of floors one to three and the addition of two fully glazed floors to create 49 large private apartments and two commercial spaces on the ground and basement floors.

The scheme also includes a car parking system known as ‘combilift’ developed by German company, ‘Wohr’, which is a space saving stacking system. Unity street was the first residential scheme in the UK to install this system.

America Street is located just south of Bankside`s Tate Modern, off Southwark Bridge Road. Acquired by Carrot the scheme comprised of 22 private residential apartments including four oversized duplex penthouse apartments as well as a single-level penthouse with stunning views of the City, covering over 2500 sq ft with an extensive terrace area, taking the net residential developable area to 23,966 sq ft.

The scheme also incorporated a single floor of new build office space finished to shell and core on the first floor and 28 parking bays on ground floors.

A Grade II listed building with the earlier parts dating back to the 1700s and situated on Deptford Creek, the site was acquired by CYZ in 2002 and converted into 40 large warehouse apartments including a Triplex Penthouse apartment in the Main Mill. 20 apartments were retained as rental investments, 20 sold and 4 separate buildings fronting Greenwich High Road were sold with planning consent.

The construction was extremely complex with the silo building, (main mill), requiring the internal demolition and insertion of a new steel frame within the exiting outer frame. Whilst the original planning allowed for parking in the courtyard alternative consent was sought, and granted, to allow for a space saving stacker system to free the courtyard and incorporated a communal roof garden with a lawn and ‘mobot’, to provide amenity and “soften” the space
