Adjectives made of one syllable:

the ending -‘er’ must be added

tall taller than short shorter than small smaller than

More Beautiful

If an adjective is made of one, two, three or more syllables, then the word more must be added before the adjective:

Adjectives Comp. Form

beau*ti*ful(3) more beautiful

ex*pen*sive(3) more expensive

in*te*lli*gent(4) more intelligent

Pretty

If an adjective is made of two syllables and ends in ‘’

y’’, this letter must be changed into an ‘i’, and the

ending -er:

Exceptions

There are some irregular adjectives. They change

completely from their root:

Superlatives

This form is used when it is needed to highliht a situation from other. It is necessary to add the article 'the' before a superlative:

● Good He is the best friend I have.

● Bad He is the worst boyfriend I have.
