Q & A
Q: When should I begin brushing and flossing my child’s/grandchild’s teeth?
A: Brushing should begin as soon as the first tooth appears in the mouth. A non-fluoride “training toothpaste” is recommended for this young age. Flossing should begin as soon as there are at least two teeth that touch each
other. This is important to prevent cavities between the teeth, and also allows the child to become used to flossing...which makes it much easier as the child gets older!
INVISALIGN CLEAR BRACES
Many of our patients are already aware that Drs. Attila and Michelle Nagy are trained in Invisalign, often known as “clear braces”. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable trays (“aligners”) to straighten teeth. This is a great option for teens and adults that do not wish to have brackets placed on their teeth.
There are many benefits of Invisalign over braces. First, the most obvious benefit is esthetics - the trays are clear and barely noticeable to others. Also, since the trays are removable, you can eat whatever foods you enjoy and also can brush and floss normally. This helps to maintain good oral health and to prevent the “white spots” that can sometimes occur with less-than-adequate brushing common with traditional braces. Our patients tend to be much more comfortable, since the trays consist of smooth plastic that is less likely to irritate your cheeks and gums than metal.
So what is the first step? The best p l ace to s ta r t i s w i th a f ree consultation at our office, at which time we will describe the process and determine whether or not you are a candidate for Invisalign. Once this is determined and i f you wish to proceed, we will take a few pictures and x-rays (if needed, depending upon the age of your last panoramic and other x-rays) and take impressions of your teeth. We will compile data regarding your dental health, your current tooth alignment, and other necessary information. All of this is sent to the Invisalign company who wi l l then send back the i r recommendations for the doctor to review. If satisfied, the doctor will approve the case and Invisalign will then fabricate a set of trays to be shipped to our office. We will then schedu le you for your f i r s t appointment at which time you will receive your first set of trays and the easy instructions for using them.
The average case takes about 12 months for adults, but each case can
var y ; th i s i s determined af te r analyzing the models and information collected at the initial appointment. Often we only need to see you every 4 to 6 weeks or so for a qu ick appointment to check progress and hand over the new trays/aligners.
You may wi sh to v i s i t www. inv i sa l i gn .com for more information about the process. On a side note, Dr. Attila is currently being t reated by Dr. Miche l le a s an Invisalign patient, so he can tell you first hand about his experience with the process! Please feel free to call our office with any questions!

Last year Drs. Attila and Michelle Nagy awarded the first three Oakwood Dental “Most Improved Student” $1000 scholarships for three graduating seniors: one from Bucyrus High School, one from Colonel Crawford High School, and one from Wynford High
School. We asked each school to nominate a deserving senior who has worked very hard to greatly improve their academic achievements during their high school career. Our idea was to award scholarships to students who may not be at the top of their class and thus may not be eligible for standard academic scholarships, but who have shown impressive work and have proven that they can work hard to be successful in their advanced education. The scholarship can be used for any aspect of funding their higher education.
We hope to continue the scholarship program in the future and expand it to include Buckeye Central High School. The three 2011 recipients are highlighted below:
