Difference between a Cheque and a Demand draft
A cheque is issued by an individual whereas a demand draft is issued by a bank.
A cheque is defined in the Negotiable Instrument Act,1881, whereas a demand draft has not be precisely defined in the Negotiable Instrument Act.
A cheque can be made payable either to a bearer or order but a demand draft is always payable to order of a certain person.
A cheque is drawn by an accountholder of a bank, whereas a draft is drawn by one branch of a bank on another branch of the same bank.
In a cheque, the drawer and the drawee are different persons. But in a draft both the drawer and the drawee are the same bank.
A cheque can be dishonored in case of insufficient balance in the account whereas a draft cannot be dishonored.
Payment of a cheque can be stopped by the drawer of the cheque, whereas the payment of a draft cannot be stopped.

Important Facts about Insurance Companies
Life Insurance in its modern form came to India from England in the year 1818.
Oriental Life Insurance Company started by Europeans in Calcutta was the first Life Insurance Company on Indian Soil.
Bombay Mutual Life Assurance Society heralded the birth of first Indian life Insurance Company in the year 1870.
Bharat Insurance Company (1896) was also one of such companies inspired by nationalism.
The Swadeshi Movement of 1905-1907 gave rise to more insurance companies. The United India in Madras, National Indian and National Insurance in Calcutta and the Cooperative Assurance at Lahore were established in 1906.
In 1907, Hindustan Cooperative Insurance Company took its birth in one of the rooms of the Jorasanko, house of the great poet Rabindranath Tagore, in Calcutta.
The Indian Mercantile, General Assurance and Swadeshi Life (later Bombay Life) were some of the companies established during the same period.
The Life Insurance Companies Act, 1912 made it necessary that the premium rate tables and periodical valuations of companies should be certified by an actuary. But the Act discriminated between foreign and Indian companies on many accounts, putting the Indian companies at a disadvantage.

Exam Competition Toppers
In simple terms, inflation is a situation where too much money chases too few goods .
Characteristics:
o It is a continuous process. o It refers to a rise in prices in general. o It involves a considerable increase in prices. o It causes a decline in the purchasing power of money
Causes of inflation
Increase in the money supply.
Increase in the input costs.
Market failure.
Imported inflation.
Weaker exchange rate.
Decline in productivity.
Trade unions.
Measures to combat inflation
Fiscal measures:
Increase direct taxes.
Increase indirect taxes.
Reduce government spending.
Introduce measures to increase productivity, e.g. tax rebates
Monetary measures:
Increase interest rates of banks.
Decrease money supply.
Decrease availability of credit from banks.
Decrease currency control.
Few descriptions of this measure::
~BANK RATE POLICY
The increase in bank rate increases the cost of borrowing which reduces commercial banks borrowing from the central bank. Consequently, the flow of

money from the commercial banks to the public gets reduced. Therefore, inflation is controlled to the extent it is caused by the bank credit.
~Cash Reserve Ratio
the central bank raises the CRR which reduces the lending capacity of the commercial banks. Consequently, flow of money from commercial banks to public decreases. In the process, it halts the rise in prices to the extent it is caused by banks credits to the public.
~Open Market Operations:
Open market operations refer to sale and purchase of government securities and bonds by the central bank. To control inflation, central bank sells the government securities to the public through the banks. This results in transfer of a part of bank deposits to central bank account and reduces credit creation capacity of the commercial banks.
Stagflation
A country persistently suffers from high inflation and high unemployment.
Hyperinflation
Extremely rapid and substantial changes in the overall level of prices
Demand-pull inflation:
inflation caused by increases in aggregate demand due to increased private and government spending, etc. Demand inflation is constructive to a faster rate of economic growth since the excess demand and favourable market conditions will stimulate investment and expansion.
Cost-push inflation:
also called "supply shock inflation," caused by drops in aggregate supply due to increased prices of inputs, for example. Take for instance a sudden decrease in

the supply of oil, which would increase oil prices. Producers for whom oil is a part of their costs could then pass this on to consumers in the form of increased prices.
Deflation:
Deflation is the reverse of inflation. It refers to a sustained decline in the price level of goods and services. It occurs when the annual inflation rate falls below zero percent (a negative inflation rate), resulting in an increase in the real value of money.
