Evolving NSQF Compliant Program

on Cultural Informatics

AbstractGlobalization prompted division of skills. Polarization of opportunities put countries in competitive and collaborative mode. Foundation of creative or critical thinking and building up technological skills is nucleated at school level, developed at college/ university level. Information Technology (IT) augments the Educational processes. Students centered pedagogies become effective with better learning outcomes.

In order to connect up theory-intensive academic streams with vocational streams, NSQF(National Skill Qualification Framework) has been proposed. AICTE and UGC have identified 14 and 10 broad skill sectors respectively. Art and Culture is one of those. Further seven specialization areas are identified under the skill sector on Culture. Expressive Culture is one of these seven sub skill sector areas. With the advent of Information Technology, Expressive Culture is enriched, preserved and disseminated widely. Hence a program on Cultural Informatics is proposed that is skill intensive and NSQF compliant ensuring mobility. This is designed as credit based modular program with options on entry, exit and place of study. India is poised to transform with focus on skill and innovation, and connect up with heritage knowledge in higher education. The choice based credit course modules at university level will give opportunity to students to carve their career with excellence, human values and sustainable happiness. It is hoped that the modules on Cultural Informatics will be liked by students of humanities, science, technology, engineering, medical science, architecture, archeology, management and other professional programs as well.
