ActionScript

ActionScript, the scripting language of Macromedia Flash MX, allows you to create a movie that behaves exactly as you want. Like other scripting

languages, ActionScript follows its own rules of syntax, reserves keywords, provides operators, and allows you to use variables to store and retrieve

information. ActionScript includes built-in objects and functions and allows you to create your own objects and functions. The ActionScript syntax and

style closely resemble that of JavaScript. Flash MX understands ActionScript written in any previous version of Flash.

colors.

Applications

• Complex and High Quality Output. • Logos.

• Libraries. • High Quality Illustrations. • Creating Banners, Posters, Handbills etc

Suitable scripting languages include:

• ASP • Cold Fusion • JSP

• Perl • PHP

• Python • Ruby

JAVASCRIPT / DHTML

Applications

• It is used to write Program's that are executed by a web-browser within the context of web page on server side.

• It can be used to write web server Program to process the data.

Java applet advantages:

• it is simple to make it work on Windows, Mac OS and Linux, i.e. to make it cross platform

• the same applet can work on "all" installed versions of Java at the

same time, rather than just the latest plug-in version only

Page 17: computer Hardware coursebook

Certificate course in Computer Hardware Page:

Training Division, Beam Consultancy Services (BCS) www.beamconsultancy.blogspot.com

17 of 53

• it can work without any security approval from the user - who doesn't need to trust the software's author

• it is supported by most web browsers • it will cache in most web browsers, so will be quick to load when

returning to a web page • it can have full access to the machine it is running on if the user

agrees

• it can improve with use: after a first applet is run, the JVM is already running and starts quickly, benefiting regular users of Java

• it can run at a comparable (but generally slower) speed to other compiled languages such as C++

• it can be a real time application

• it can move the work from the server to the client, making a web solution more scalable with the number of users/clients

Disadvantages of applets

Java applet disadvantages:

• it requires the Java plug-in, which isn't available by default on all web

browsers • it can't start up until the JVM is running, and this may have significant

startup time the first time it is used • if it is uncached, it must be downloaded (usually over the internet),

and this takes time • it is considered more difficult to build and design a good user interface

with applets than with HTML-based technologies

• if untrusted, it has severely limited access to the user's system - in particular having no direct access to the client's disc or clipboard

Creating software involves:

• Requirements analysis

• Specification • Software architecture • Coding

• Compilation • Software testing

• Documentation • Integration

• Maintenance

• Put: stores the local file on the remote system. • User name: identification of the user to the remote system.

• Password: user's access code to the remote server. • Close: closes the connection with the remote server, but keeps you

within the FTP program.

• Connect: enables you to connect to a remote server. • Change Directory:enables you to change directories.

• Make Directory: enables you to create a new folder. • Cancel: cancels the current file transferring.

retrieving it. A user will either hit the stop button, close the browser, or click on a link before the page loads. Usually occurs when servers are slow or file

sizes are large.
