COMPUTER LITERACY COMPETENCY ASSESSMENT

RATIONALE

Technology provides us with exciting challenges and opportunities as we enter the 21st century. Itscontinued diversity extends the ability to communicate information, operate systems, and process datarapidly. Its use expands our thinking capacity, challenges our daily learning environment, and is anatural part of our lifestyle. Knowing how to use the computer and other forms of technology isessential in the classroom, the workplace, and the home. Therefore, these skills should be the sharedresponsibility of teachers of all disciplines.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

This Computer Literacy Competency Test is comprised of six parts. Parts A and B consist ofmatching and multiple choice questions. Parts C, D, E and F are practical applications. In order towaive the class and/or receive one semester of high school credit for Computer Literacy, the studentmust take all parts of the test with a cumulative score of 80% before exemption or credit can begranted.

Computer Literacy=knowing and understanding where a computer comes from, what it does, how itworks and how you can use it.

HOW TO SCORE

A. There is a 110-minute time limit for the entire test.

B. Each application has an attached scoring sheet with total points possible listed at the bottom.The scoring sheet is a standardized form for grading each application.

C. Total points for all parts equal 193.

The SDA forum is the meeting place on CompuServe where Seventh-day Adventist leadersand members can meet together and share ideas with fellow beleivers and church employees around theworld. (Interested members of other denominations are always welcome, too.) It is sponsored by theGeneral Conference and the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists.

You'll also be able to download resourcefiles from libraries and join live online conferences with denominational personalities. Directions: Be sure to follow the steps in sequential order. (Teacher Note: The teacher willneed to enter SSDOC into the appropriate spreadsheet software before thestudent follows the directions under Part D.)

2. Attractively arrange the column widths of each column.

3. Right align column headings C - J.

4. Write a formula in I6 to add all the hours worked by Joe Green.
