The Loop Station Battle on the 28th of February 2014: For the past few years loop stations for Beatboxing have become more and more popular. Artists are using different track lines to create amazing beats, original songs, cover songs and more. The BScene Club Festival brings together the world’s best Loopers to Basel and lets them battle in a fair competition. A great night for all competitors and the crowd!

Number of Battle-Participants: 8 Number of Judges: 4 Process of the battle: A few days before the Loop Station Battle the organizers will draw the first four battle-pairs (quarterfinals) and make this video public. The battle itself will be held in an „A-B-A-B-System“ where each opponent performs two 3-minute duels „face-to-face“. In other words each looper performs for a total of 6 minutes. To avoid needless modifications on stage and to ensure a smooth process, there will be two tables on the stage with fixed technical equipment. This guarantees equality in technical „weapons“. Each contestant decides which console he uses to battle. The winners of the four quarterfinals will move ahead to the semifinal. The winners will be rated by four judges. The semifinals and also the Grand Final will be held with the same „A-B-A-B-System“. May the best looper win! Judging: For the Grand Beatbox Battle 2014 there is a new judging system that includes the common rating and a special category for each judge. The categories are:

• Musicality • Originality • Show • Technique

Each judge can also award up to ten points or any fraction thereof for each of the four categories. Each contestant has the potential to earn 40 points from each judge for a total of 160 maximum points. Who can participate? How can we register? The organizers contact seven of the eight loopers directly. One of these seven is the defending champion and winner of the previous year, Grison from Spain. But registration is still possible: From the 1st of December until the 15th of December 2013 all interested loopers can upload a YouTube Video and post the link on the wall of the facebook page of the Grand Beatbox Battle (Link: www.facebook.com/grandbeatboxbattle). The public decides in a Public-Online-Voting who the winner of this wildcard will be. The organizers will launch a public voting from the 16th of December until the 31st of December. After this all the loop station Beatboxers will be set.

Available equipment: Each battle-table will have the following equipment: • 1 x Boss RC-30 • 1 x Boss RC-50 • 1 x Boss RC-300 • 1 x Boss RC-505 • 1 x KAOSS-Pad • 1 x Microphone SHURE SM85 • 1 x Microphone AKG BBB DFIVE

Each Participant must inform the organizers which gear he will use for the battle at least seven days before the event. Only like this we can promise an event without complications. No other equipment is planned. For the live-performance no instruments are allowed, but there are no limitations to the use of effects of the equipment itself. All the effects on the available gears are allowed.

Sound check: To make sure all the loopers are comfortable during their performances, every contestant will have exactly 8 minutes to check the sound and the equipment before the doors open. Venue: The venue is not yet defined, but will be a middle-sized club with 500 capacity and a high quality sound system.

The Showcase Battle on the 1st of March 2014: Unlike the Loop Station Battle, the only equipment on stage is a microphone. All sounds are produced by the participant’s body. It requires exceptional talent, artistry and countless hours, days and years of practice to reach the stage of a big Beatbox Battle. It is just amazing and tremendous what these superstars perform on our stages. The Grand Beatbox Battle has always enjoyed performances by the „big names“. To mention only a few the organizers are proud to have presented the world champion 2012 „Skiller“ (BUL), his forerunner „ZeDe“ (CH) and the vice-world-champion „Alem“ (FRA). Further it is always a big challenge for the organizers to invite participants with high potential to this event. This worked out with success in the past years, next to the already mentioned names, there was for instance „krnfx“ (CAN – nowadays a YouTube-Star), „Beat Rhino“ (USA – new US-Champion), „Ball-Zee“ (UK – multiple UK-Champion) and many others. Number of Battle-Participants: 10 Number of Judges: 4 Process: Each participant begins the „elimination round“ with a five-minute solo-showcase. Based on the judges scoring, four semi-finalists will be chosen. The one with the most points will battle the fourth and the second will compete against the third. In the semifinals the qualifiers perform for 90 seconds two times alternately in the „A-B-A-B-System“. A coin-flip will decide who starts. „The combination of showcase and face-to-face bring up a lot of entertainment and fr iendly r ivalry!“ The two winners of the semifinals will compete in the Grand Final and will fight for the title of the Grand Beatbox Battle Showcase Battle. After another coin-flip the finale will be held in the „A-B-A-B-System“ and also with two 90-second presentations. The pure beatbox time of this battle is 74 minutes and guarantees pure entertainment. Judging: The same evaluation system as the Loop Station Battle (see above) is being used here.

Who is participating? Can we register? Only the two finalists of the previous year are seeded for the Showcase Battle 2014. This will be Dharni (SGP) and Alem (FRA). Seven more participants will be selected by a jury who rate the submitted wildcard videos. Interested Beatboxers can register by uploading a wildcard video and posting it on the wall of the facebook page of the Grand Beatbox Battle (Link: www.facebook.com/grandbeatboxbattle). The registration for the GBBB 2014 starts on the 16th of September 2013. To make sure that public opinion is included, the organizers will initiate a public online-voting for the last wildcard seat. The online-voting starts on the 1st of November and lasts until the 15th of November 2013. Anyone is allowed to vote. The starting shot for the registration is being given by the last year’s Showcase Battle winner Dharni, who will ask the Beatbox Community to try to knock him from the throne and steal his crown. All themed like: „come and beat me with your show!“ Publication of the participants: The seven winners of the wildcards chosen by the judges will be announced one by one on the facebook-page of the Grand Beatbox Battle (https://www.facebook.com/grandbeatboxbattle).

Technical & Sound check: Every artist will be able to check the microphones in the afternoon for exactly 6 minutes. All the wished settings will be saved on the digital sound desk to play them the same way in the evening during the battle. Participants can choose between „SHURE SM58“, „AKG BBB DFIVE“ or a self brought microphone. We want to have perfect conditions for all contestants. Venue: The Showcase Battle will be held in the „Rossstall“ of „Kaserne Basel“ as for the past five years. They have an amazingly good high quality sound system and a capacity of 600 people.
