Concussions in Professional Sports A concussion is a type of traumatic brain

injury, most commonly occurring in contact sports.

Concussions in professional sports have not been studied until recently, in which all North American Sport Leagues have adopted necessary procedures to managing them correctly.

Concussions in Professional Sports The result of receiving multiple concussions has been

linked to the brain disease CTE. “Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy is a degenerative brain disorder linked to memory loss, depression and dementia,” according to an article on the ESPN website.

Brain specialists at Boston University recently conducted a study examining brain tissue from 85 people with a history of repetitive brain trauma from various professional sports.

The researchers have confirmed 50 cases of former football players with CTE along with four NHL players; further connecting contact sports to long-term brain disease.
